The Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk. III, better known as the SMLE, is a British bolt-action rifle chambered in .303 British, firing from a 10-round box magazine. It features a number of upgrades over its predecessor, the Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk. I; it is designed to be fit with the Pattern 1907 Bayonet, can load from stripper clips and is shorter (therefore, more manoeuvrable). SMLE rifles are an icon of World War I, being the standard British service rifle during and after this conflict. Similarly, Oceanyka's Federal Army adopted the SMLE Mk. III mid-war and continued producing it in Lithgow until its replacement by the L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle. It is currently the most common bolt-action rifle in the continent.
