The M2 Mortar is an American 60mm light fire support weapon. With a range of 2km, it was superior in this aspect to the light mortars of all other nations involved in WW2, and allowed the American infantry company to possess disproportionate firepower... before radio-call artillery and air support is even considered. It is a licensed copy of the French 60mm Brandt design, though there exist far more M2 units than its predecessor, making it readily available for any would-be light infantry force to purchase.
