The M2 4.2-inch Mortar is an American 107mm heavy mortar. Originally designed solely for chemical warfare and white phosphorus shells, at the outbreak of WW2 the Americans scrambled to make high-explosive rounds for this weapon, which had a good range of 4km and greater firepower than contemporary 81mm tubes. The M30 model replaced it during the 1950s, so many surplus M2s have reached conflict zones throughout the world, alongside its fearsome chemical shells.
