The M2 howitzer, redesignated M101 in the early 1960s, is America's light howitzer by excellence, serving in its infantry divisions since World War II. While a fairly conventional design by the time's standards, the true strength of the M2 lies in America's logistical capability to keep it supplied with endless stores of ammunition. Where German, Soviet, British and Japanese 105mm guns struggled to obtain ammunition for that one special fire mission, M2 gun crews were overworked from firing so many shells out of their tubes day and night. Any American company could radio in for artillery support, and the M2 would reply.
