The Department of the Foreign Office is a federal ministerial department with the following missions;
- Maintain clear and rapid communication with the world's nations.
- Develop closer ties with Oceanyka's allies, currently the East.
- Host and service foreign embassies in Cestlep.
- Defuse international incidents that could lead to war.
- Avoid nuclear war at all costs.
For these missions the Department of the Foreign Office has one intellligence agency at its disposal; the Foreign Intelligence Service. Its head is the Minister of the Foreign Office, aided in their functions by a number of ambassadors and diplomats.
Due to Oceanyka's relative isolation and the small size of its government, it is no surprise that the Foreign Office was traditionally not nearly as important as in other nations. However, with the Oceanykan Revolution came a radical shift; the Oceanykan Federation entered the Cold War as an ally of China and the Soviet Union, therefore becoming a rival of Germany and America. Despite this strained relationship with the West, Cestlep has made great efforts not to break communications or commercial relations with its supposed enemies. The Foreign Office has also done everything in its power to gain closer ties to the East, helping Oceanyka become a founding member of the Canton Protocol.
The most important assets that the Foreign Office controls are its embassies and consulates in Washington D.C., Ottawa, Mexico City, Brasilia, Lisbon, Madrid, London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Vienna, Belgrade, Istambul, Bucharest, Tirana, Sofia, Moscow, Tashkent, Cairo, Tehran, Pretoria, Lagos, Addis Ababa, New Delhi, Islamabad, Chennai, Jakarta, Hanoi, Yangon, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Beijing, Seoul, Pyongyang, Taipei, Tokyo and Wellington. Prior to the Constitutional Act of 1962, not even a third of these embassies existed, as the Foreign Office only maintained diplomatic ties with the world's nuclear powers to fulfill perhaps its most important duty; to defuse all international conflicts before they erupt into a "shooting war", doing anything within the realm of possibility or fiction to prevent nuclear war.
