Simple Shot refers to projectiles which rely on their kinetic force to do any damage. Common examples are round shot for smoothbore cannons, as well as early minié-like shot. Some Oceanykans still manufacture this type of ammunition in extreme emergency situations, as a solid chunk of lead or pig iron going Mach 2 is still deadly to the opposite side, regardless of what it's fired from.

Game Stats

Simple shot is used by most pre-Victorian artillery such as the 12-Pounder Cannon. However, it can also be manufactured on an emergency if spent casings, primers and gunpowder is at hand. The DM will decide what kind of penalty such ammunition carries with it.

When employing generic simple shot:

  • Apply full DMG.
  • Reduce PEN by -1.
  • Calculate no fragmentation.

As simple Shot is Kinetic, it loses PEN over distance.

  • Point Blank Range - No penalty.
  • Close Range (≤10m / 1sq) -> No penalty.
  • Short Range (≤50m / 5sq) -> No penalty.
  • Average Range (≤200m / 10sq) -> -1 PEN
  • Medium Range (≤500m / 20sq) -> -2 PEN
  • Long Range (≤1000m / 50sq) -> -3 PEN)
  • Very Long Range (≤2000m) -> -4 PEN
  • Extreme Range (>2000m) -> -5 PEN
