In traditional Aboriginal culture no death is considered natural, but rather a result of spells or curses, sometimes by an enemy faction or individual. When the latter was believed to be the case, elders would convene and decide what to do. One of their options was to send a kurdaitcha, a shaman specialised in the art of killing. With time, these agents associated with each other and formed a loose brotherhood bearing their name.
The kurdaitcha are a loose continental organisation made up of shamanic assassins. They may be in service of a community or sovereign, alternatively wandering throughout Oceanyka as hitmen for hire. Traditionally, kurdaitcha would wear shoes made of emu feathers and human hair, thus allowing them to walk in complete silence. Their weapon was the pointing bone, a sharpened human femur which could cause psychosomatic death when pointed at a religious person. It could also be used as a stabbing weapon, and if it pierced the shoulder at a correct angle, could destroy the heart leaving only a small superficial wound.
Modern kurdaitcha may use traditional or modern methods for killing their targets, especially since the arrival of Europeans to the continent, and the subsequent decline in traditional beliefs.
