Uluru, known by the British as "Ayers Rock", is a massive sandstone monolith in the middle of the Oceanykan outback. It is an inselberg (or "island mountain") which stands out in the flat desert. It is traditionally believed to be Eingana, the Rainbow Serpent, now resting from her great deeds to save the people of the east from the Ferozen Invasion. Over centuries, layers of rock and sand piled over her body, now hidden deep within. Besides its spiritual importance, Uluru can be seen at a distance of up to 100km away, so it functions as a natural landmark for those who navigate the treacherous Outback.
