Solid nitrogen, when arranged in a cubic-gauche crystal (named gauche due to the angle of its odd dihedral angles), contains over 5 times as much explosive power as TNT. Despite the enormous heat and pressure necessary to produce such a substance in Earth, the Precursors were capable of creating it in solid pellets which were stable at room temperature and largely inert. The fact that canisters of this material can still be found is a testament to the ruggedness of their engineering. cg-N explosives were likely used for weaponry and mining.
