The L4 Bren Gun is a British light machinegun, a modified version of the World War II-era Bren Gun. It is chambered in the 7.62Γ—51mm NATO cartridge and can use either 20 or 30 round magazines, both of its own production and those used in the L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle or its derivatives. The L4 has a gas-operated tilting bolt action and a quick-change barrel. It can fire in semi-automatic or fully automatic mode. This weapon was adopted by the British Army in the 1950s, though it is believed that the XL-65 Light Support Weapon or one of its derivatives will eventually replace it.
