Rural Superculture

Oceanyka's rural superculture is a distinctive and important part of the nation's identity and heritage. It reflects the diversity and resilience of the people who live and work in the vast and varied landscapes of the country, from the sun-scorched plains of the Lake Rangelands to the frigid valleys of the Great Dividing Range. The common denominator between the peoples which inhabit these places is that they make a living from the land, though their lifestyle is wholly settled or at least semi-sedentary.

Rural cultures amongst Oceanyka are very varied, and greatly influenced by the geography in which they are located but are almost universally conservative and deeply religious. It is rare to see a warlike peasantry, even within Tasmania, as most of them seek an idyllic country lifestyle. Regardless of whether they hail from Europe, or if their bloodline has tilled the same patch of land for hundreds of years, most of them are honest and hard-working folk, though they lack access to education. Many to-be urbanites are born in the countryside, seeking better opportunities in Oceanyka's cities during adulthood. Free farmers are usually known as cockies.
