Military Superculture

It is said that the two oldest institutions in human history are the priesthood and the army. Over millennia of development, military culture has developed a distinct character with globally recognisable characteristics; a strong hierarchy (which allows for the concept of command), ruggedness, courage, mateship and a permanent aspiration towards discipline and loyalty. Regardless of what kind of armed force it is, these values are more of less constant, and are reinforced by daily life in the barracks. This sort of lifestyle is very communitarian, requiring a constant amount of teamwork and officers capable of planning out the unit's next move. It should thus surprise no one that soldiers, even when they find themselves fighting amongst each other, have a certain camaraderie with others in their profession.
