The Daimler-Benz DB 605 is a German liquid-cooled V12 piston engine for aircraft. Compared to its predecessor, it has a larger bore and improved valve timing, alongside a more powerful supercharger (improving high altitude performance). However, it maintains the compact size which made this family of engines such a popular choice. The DB 605 is a product of the war industry and as such suffered from a number of changes which made it cheaper, but less reliable; the use of plain bearings instead of ball bearings, cheap lubricants and poorer alloys led to decreases in reliability. Regardless, it could reach a power of 2074 hp at sea level, twice that of its predecessor. As such, the DB 605 is not as popular as its pre-war predecessor amongst Oceanykan airmen, though the choice isn't always there.
