The Mondragón M1893 is a Mexican straight-pull bolt-action rifle designed by General Manuel Mondragón and manufactured by the Swiss SIG company for Porfirio Diaz's Federal Army. Originally chambered in a couple of proprietary cartridges, it was eventually left in 7x57mm Mauser. A unique aspect of this rifle is its "rapid fire" setting, which releases the firing pin on bolt close, allowing a rifleman to dump five rounds in extremely rapid succession. Thousands of SIG-made M1893s were bought until the necessary tooling and industrial development was imported, allowing Mexico to manufacture its own M1893s. These rifles were most notably used during the Mexican Revolution, though they were replaced by more modern Mauser variants during PRM/PRI rule.
