The Wirraway was designed with Oceanyka's harsh conditions in mind; though it was inferior to contemporary Japanese designs in most technical aspects, it could fly through typhoons and tropical storms unscathed. Perhaps it wasn't the aircraft itself, but rather its pilots, either too brave or too stupid to turn back to base.
