The Meteoric Waraxe is the iconic weapon of the ancient Ferozen warrior, a formidable axe originally forged from meteoric iron which Tasmania is unnaturally rich in. To the Ferozen, the metal’s celestial origin was seen as divine, a fragment of the heavens gifted to humankind by the will of Aster. Early blades were individually hand-forged by tribal smiths who worked the metal with reverence, typically shaping it over the island's natural lava flows, the only source of heat strong enough to smelt iron.
During the Ferozen Invasion, this axe became the defining tool of conquest. Compact enough for close-quarters combat yet heavy enough to cleave through helmets and shields, the Meteoric Waraxe excelled in the rapid, near-suicidal infantry charges that characterised Ferozen warfare. Warriors would wield it single-handedly alongside small wooden shields, striking with explosive ferocity before retreating to regroup, a style later imitated by the mainland.
As meteoric iron became scarce, subsequent generations turned to wrought iron and eventually Steel, though the original “sky-metal” versions were treated as sacred relics. A single authentic Meteoric Waraxe could command immense prestige; chieftains, generals, and priests often bore one as a symbol of divine mandate and martial authority. Even centuries after the invasion, the weapon remained an heirloom of lineage and leadership for the Ferozen Warlords, its mythos enduring long after their acclimatisation to mainland Australia.
Though crude by modern standards, its balance, heft, and psychological presence make it lethal in the hands of a strong or fanatical wielder, a weapon that embodies both the zeal and fury of a people who believed themselves descended from He who slaughtered the tyrannical gods of old.
