Germany possessed the most advanced and well-trained armoured forces in the world at the outbreak of the Second Weltkrieg. After recovering from its initial losses, the "Panzerwaffe" would become instrumental in earning Germany a number of victories thanks to its deeply integrated combined arms doctrine, baptised as "blitzkrieg" or "lightning warfare" by the foreign press, a name they later adopted themselves earnestly.
