Germany's armoured forces during the Weltkrieg were not meant to smash head-first into Entente trench networks, as this was the job of "stormtrooper" infantry. Instead, they were meant to train their weapons on hardened positions such as machinegun bunkers and direct-fire artillery, as well as enemy tanks, then advance and prepare to deflect enemy counter-attacks in open terrain.
