Chitin is a polymerous material naturally occurring in most arthropods as part of an exoskeleton, which supports their weight and grants them a large degree of protection from the outside world. In Oceanyka, chitin is sometimes latticed with layers of Bioferrite, making it a composite material that can even withstand some blows from metallic weapons, though that does make it significantly heavier.
