Level 1A: Hell’s Antechamber

Ways In, Out, and Around

  • Spiral stairs in the grand foyer climb 100 feet up to The Canyon – West.

  • A silent teleportation glyph (spiral eye with clawed lashes) ports a toucher to the alchemy-littered study; an identical glyph glows faintly there as well.

  • The Whistling Well drops 60 feet to a chamber on Level 2A.

  • A rust-choked portcullis blocks one passage; raising it takes muscle, leverage, and noise.

  • A childish iron sign points west: “Da’ Dragon’s Den.” (It leads to a fake hoard—the “dragon” is anything but.)

Hazards, Curses, and Curios

  • Green slime erupts from the kitchen pump.

  • A pair of facing statues arc lightning if you pass between them.

  • A dry fountain can belch a lethal poison cloud when jostled (save vs. poison or die).

  • The Giggling Skull altar inflicts unstoppable laughter, and its secret coffer is needle-trapped.

  • The devil-lizard idol’s offering bowl is rigged with falling stones.

  • An ancient battleground chills the marrow; ghostly figures can appear and send the stoutest running.

  • Sooty “Eternal Silhouettes” re-stain the wall days after being scrubbed.

  • The Wheel of Fortune groans like a funeral bell; spin for Weal or Woe (twice per day, party-wide).

  • A well-painted but fake door mocks the unwary.

Lore & Leads

  • “Rocky,” a cracked stone oracle, answers three questions a day—truthful, false, or maddeningly cryptic.

  • A chalked pentagram and pooled wax in the foyer suggest recent rites.

  • Dwarvish measurements etched over a dorm threshold and a pristine dwarven hall hint at proud builders.

  • A brass pet tag marked “Precious” suggests wererats lair on Level 3A.

  • Chalk scrawls try (and fail) to divide 537 by 4. Often.

Atmosphere & Oddments

  • Fanged archways and shifting imp murals gnash and leer at the threshold.

  • Graffiti, lewd sketches, and a painted fake door add gallows humor.

  • Bone effigies, glow-worm starlight, and thirteen carefully placed stones lend a ritual cast to one dorm.

  • A makeshift tavern with a “Tips” bowl (holding exactly one lonely copper) suggests someone once called this level “home.”
