🔥 Sovereign Church
Flame of Virtue, Light of Reason, Sanctity of Will
Philosophical Faith and Humanist Cult of the Eternal Fire
Alignment: Lawful
Type: Philosophical Religion (not a true deity)
📜 Doctrine & Origin
The Sovereign Church teaches that humanity was born carrying a divine spark—a sacred inner flame granted by an unknowable creator at the dawn of the world. This flame is not bestowed again in life, and no god will rekindle it once extinguished. It is the duty of every soul to protect, nurture, and grow this flame through discipline, righteousness, compassion, and clarity of purpose.
The Church holds that upon death, the soul enters a place of shadows, and only its inner light will guide it to peace—or leave it lost forever. The Church recognizes no singular deity or divine intercessor, but reveres the Eternal Flame as both metaphor and mystery, symbolic of truth, moral clarity, and the will to rise above baser instincts.
🔥 Depiction
The core symbol of the Church is a burning heart, wrapped in bands of flame or emerging from a brazier. Priests often wear this emblazoned on crimson or white robes.
While the Church does not worship personified gods, many artistic renderings depict the Flame as a towering figure of fire, its features always shifting—sometimes male, sometimes female, sometimes faceless. These visions are understood to be symbolic manifestations of the human conscience, not literal gods.
🛕 Structure & Worship
-
Temples: Known as Hearths, these are austere stone halls with central fire-altars that must burn continuously. Worshippers enter in silence and meditate on the flame.
-
Clergy Titles: Illuminants, Flamebearers, Priests of the Inner Fire
-
Holy Days:
-
The Flame’s Vigil (Winter Solstice): A night of silence and firekeeping
-
First Ember (Spring Equinox): Rituals of renewal and rededication
-
The Ashfast (Midsummer): A fasting day where only warmth and water are taken
-
-
Symbol: A burning heart, often inscribed within a ring or stylized brazier
-
Sacred Animal: None formally, but the falcon is associated with clarity and ascension
-
Sacred Flame: Fire is never extinguished within temples—even ceremonial candles are buried, not blown out
⚖️ Tenets of the Faithful
Followers of the Sovereign Church must:
-
Tend their inner flame through self-discipline, compassion, and truth
-
Avoid deceit, cruelty, sloth, and indulgence—which smother the soul’s fire
-
Speak with intention; falsehoods dim the flame
-
Aid others in stoking their flame—through teaching, protection, or healing
-
Reject nihilism; even in suffering, the flame can grow
đź”® Special Spell Access (Arcane Crossovers)

| 3rd | Protection from Evil 10’ Radius | Shared | Inner purity creates a ward against darkness |
| 4th | Wall of Fire | Arcane | The flame of judgment—fierce and purifying |
| 5th | Contact Other Plane | Arcane | Seeking divine truth beyond mortal flame |
These spells require silent preparation before an active flame and a ritual vow of purpose to be effective.
✨ Holy Garb of the Flamebearers
“Not all fires burn to destroy—some burn to reveal.”
— Sermon of the Ashfast
Clergy of the Sovereign Church dress simply but symbolically. Their robes are white, red, or ash gray, trimmed in flame motifs. Each carries a flame token—a small, lit lamp or brazier—when performing rites. Their garments serve as divine foci for spellcasting.
