⚒️ Red Tooth Rise

"In stone, in flame, in vow—we endure."

🏰 Overview

Type: Dwarven Stronghold
Population: ~2,500 (down from ~10,000 during the Dominion)
Dominion Legacy: Warforged Vaults, deep adamantine veins, experimental Dominion-era forges
Current Conflict: Adamantine trade rivalry with the Drow of Khaldrith Nyx
Tone: Grimly proud, stoic, quietly ambitious

🧱 Structure and Layout

Red Tooth Rise is built into the western face of the Red Tooth itself, a jagged peak named for its crimson-hued ore and bloodied history. The fortress descends in three great tiers, each ringed with housing halls, galleries, and ancestral vaults. Each level is connected by vertical lifts and spiral stairs of rune-etched stone.

Key Districts:

🛕 The Core Anvil
The beating heart of Red Tooth—dominated by the Deepfire Crucible, an ancient Dominion-era forge rumored to be powered by a fire elemental bound within a mirrored sphere. The Forge-Saints of Lughrin maintain its flame and guard its secrets.

⚔️ Ironmantle Hall
Training yards and barracks for the Redmantle Defenders, the city’s disciplined standing force. Here, young dwarves are tested on both steel and soul, sworn to defend the hold against monsters, mercenaries, and encroaching Underdark threats.

📚 The Vaults of Shamed Bronze
A reclaimed Dominion lab complex, now under tight dwarven control. Here, broken Warforged parts are studied, reassembled, or locked away. Whispers speak of one functioning prototype—"Wyrmsoul"—hidden deep beneath the stone.

🛡️ The Adamant Circle
Home of the famed Adamantwrights, who forge true adamantine weapons and plate—heavy, unyielding, and staggeringly rare. It is more artistic expression than commercial enterprise. Their work, often one piece each decade, is exported to Ashkarin and beyond, in direct philosophical competition with Khaldrix Nyx, whose drow artisans claim superiority via their mesh-alloy technique. Both groups produce an abundance of product when considering their races long lifespans, but hardly anything by human standards.

🔥 The Forge Quarter
An artisan sector where smiths, armorers, and rune-etchers practice their craft. The tavern known as “The Broken Hammer” frequently hosts roaring arguments between dwarves and visiting drow on the merits of pure adamantine versus alloyed weave.

“You call that mesh? I call it coward’s cloth.”
—Master Forgehand Hadrun Grimespine, moments before a tavern duel

👁️ Shrine of the Vigil Flame
Temple to St. Ras the Radiant and Lughrin Worldshoulders, built upon the bones of a Dominion palisade chapel. The Blacklight Watch tends to the spiritual needs of the populace—especially smiths, oath-sworn adventurers, and failed Warforged experiments seeking penance.

⚔️ Political & Trade Position

Ally of Ashkarin, but fiercely independent, Red Tooth Rise walks the line between honored partner and wary frontier state. Its adamantine trade is one of its few diplomatic weapons—and it uses it well.

Relations with Khaldrix Nyx are fraught. While no open conflict exists, trade rivalry, sabotage rumors, and ideological scuffles (especially in neutral markets like Ashkarin or Duskwater) are common.

“Drow armor bends where ours breaks bones. Mesh is for dancers, not war.”
—A common saying in Red Tooth Rise, often followed by ale and blood.

🛠️ History of Tragedy & Triumph

Red Tooth Rise was once a Dominion bastion, its enslaved dwarves forced to forge arcane machines of war—including the earliest proto-Warforged. When the Dominion fell, a rebellion led by the legendary Forge-Saint Durak Onearm freed the hold, collapsing its deepest labs and sealing away horrors best left unnamed.

The centuries since have seen both resurgence and decline. While the population has never returned to its Dominion-era peak, the pride of the dwarves burns hotter than ever.

Notable Past Events:

  • The Sealing of the Chain Pit – A forgotten Dominion vault collapsed and buried after a failed Warforged resurrection ritual.

  • The Blood Bell Revolt – A failed uprising of Dominion loyalists among the dwarves, now remembered with silence and a single cracked anvil displayed at the Forgeheart.

  • The Dimming – A century ago, the forge-flame failed for a week, believed to be caused by deep betrayal. Since then, no foreigner may work the inner forges.

Blacklight Watch

⛓️ Blacklight Watch

“Only beneath the deepest flame does the truth of a vow reveal its shadow.”

Overview

The Blacklight Watch is a sacred dwarven order based in Red Tooth Rise, tasked with safeguarding both the spiritual integrity of its people and the buried Dominion truths locked within the fortress' underforges. Where the hammer strikes steel, they see more than craft—they see covenant. Where fire glows hottest, they know the dark truth of failed vows and broken creations.

They are oath-keepers, penance-bearers, and quiet watchers over forbidden relics. No sermons, no boasting—just silence, ash, and eternal vigilance.

🕯️ Purpose & Duties

  • Spiritual guidance for smiths, oathbound warriors, and those returning from sacred quests

  • Custody of Dominion ruins, especially those involving soulforged or arcane automation

  • Vigil over the penitent, including broken Warforged and relic-bearers seeking redemption

  • Maintenance of the Deepfire Crucible’s sacred flame, which must never die

Their motto: “Flame above, shadow below—both must be watched.”

  • Colors: Coal-gray, dull silver, and emberscarlet.

  • Garb: Simple hooded cloaks, blackened aprons, and fireproof gloves—honoring both craft and restraint.

The most faithful bear brands of vow on their forearms: silver-inked runes that glow faintly when they near oathbound magic or cursed steel.

🧩 Myth & Belief

“The forge reveals, but only shadow remembers.”

They believe that fire exposes, but it is in shadow where a soul is truly tested. The Blacklight Watch teaches that every sacred duty leaves a mark, and that a vow broken beneath flame is more dangerous than any blade.

It is whispered that some Watchers see into flame not with their eyes, but their failures—dreaming of oaths undone and futures that must be corrected.

🗝️ Locations of Influence

  • Shrine of the Vigil Flame (Red Tooth Rise): Their central temple, nestled near the Vaults of Shamed Bronze. Its altar always burns—never stoked, never dimmed.

  • The Bound Steps (Ashkarin): A small sanctum built into the Temple District wall. Few enter. Those who do leave changed.

  • The Deep Seal (Undisclosed): A hidden site said to imprison the last true Dominion Forgelord, entombed in stasis. Guarded by the Watch in shifts that rotate by bloodline.
