📜 Introduction:

Oktay is a man at war with silence. The clang of iron, the howl of charge-horns, the scream of steel on bone—these are the hymns he understands. Known as “Grave-Charger” for the suicidal push he led against a skeletal host outside the Weeping Fortress, he now marches beside coin-clutching strangers and ancient dead alike, shield raised not for honor, but to drown the voices in his head.

A towering figure in pitted mail, Oktay records the last words of the fallen—not for posterity, but because he believes they are offerings that stave off his own damnation. He writes them into a worn black journal, each entry short, often tragic, and sometimes unfinished.

Unlike most mercenaries, Oktay welcomes danger. He fears peace more than death. The calm before a delve makes him restless. The laughter of campfires unsettles him. He is a man only at home in chaos.

🧠 Traits

Death-Collector: Compulsively records final words of anyone who dies near him—ally or enemy.

Battle-Born Drive: Gains advantage on morale checks when surrounded or outnumbered; will not retreat if another still fights.

Discomfort in Peace: Suffers a penalty (-1 to morale) if kept from battle for more than two days.

Shield of the Doomed: If a party member falls in battle, Oktay will immediately rush to cover their body—even if tactically unwise.

🛡️ Role in the Party:

Oktay is a fearless frontliner—a warrior who thrives in the breach, not behind it. He works exceptionally well for commanders who face danger head-on and show reverence for the fallen. He respects loyalty and sacrifice, and mistrusts cowardice or laughter in the face of death.

He is also a compelling roleplay anchor: a warrior-philosopher who may offer grim insight in dark moments or chilling memories from his journal. His presence in the group elevates the tone from “hack and slash” to “ashes and echoes.”

💰 Hiring Terms

  • Cost: 3 gp/day

  • Expects: Weekly payment in advance (21 gp); hazard pay negotiable if fighting undead, elementals, or cursed foes

  • Treasure Share: Will not ask for a share—but if offered a keepsake from the dead (e.g., a locket, emblem, or blade), he will consider that a sacred bond

⚰️ Use Oktay For:

  • Frontline protection in brutal dungeons or mass combat

  • Deep, solemn contrast to humorous or chaotic PCs

  • Story seeds: his journal may mention your next dungeon’s name

  • Emotional weight during PC deaths or heavy plot moments

  • Grim banter with necromancers or paladins alike

“His last words? ‘Don’t let them close the door.’ I wrote it down. I don't know what it means. But if we find a door—I’ll be the first through.”
