Also called shadow realm, Liminal space, Aether or Astral plane. The Animare is where Spirits, the souls of the dead, the Akatoy and the Deities reside. It has its own subdomain called EGO and is divided between a "middle" layer called Penumbrae, an "upper" layer called Hanan Pacha or Tonatiuhichan and a "lower" layer called Mictlán or underworld. The material world and the animare are separated by a barrier called Gauntlet that acts as a "catcher" of things that try to pass on from one world to the other.
