While this desease can be resisted by share will, the lucidity of the subject will only last for a certain time if the supernatural being is not killed quickly. If the subject manages to survive the encounter with the supernatural being after falling to dread wake, they will not remember anything afterwards, only being left with the sensation that they had a stroke.
While the full effects are seen in the field, in much greater scale the effects of the Eidolon Fracture can be seen in the reluctance by pure mortals of wanting to acknowledge the existence and happening of supernatural phenomena by trying to rationalize and mask a supernatural event as some other more common occurrence like a fire, explosion, plague or etc.
