Port Cairn lies on the southern coast of Farlnen. With a deceptively shallow harbor, few ships can safely dock to trade even in the summer months. The elves use a variant of soarwood to ensure even their largest ships float high enough to safely navigate the harbor. In the winter, Port Cairn would be icelocked were it not for elven magic clearing a path for their ships out of the harbor.

The population of Port Cairn is almost entirely elves, with a minority population of their fey relatives the Eladrin. Humans, dwarves, halflings, orcs, goblinoids, and all other manner of races are not welcomed to do more than visit the island.  Half-elves are seldom accepted, their dramatically shorter lifespans ill-suited to the elven lifestyle. Most half-elves on Farlnen live in Port Cairn, serving as a bridge to the non-elven traders that dock. The lack of acceptance drives many to move to Orthoss.
