An ancient mystery cult dedicated to Dol Arrah, Dol Dorn, and Dol Azur (aka the Mockery), the Three Faces of War claims to have originated with Karrn the Conqueror himself. Unlike most military fraternities, the Three Faces of War isn’t just for officers; it’s for any soldier who recognizes that war comes in many forms. Initiates receive three rings; a gold ring for Dol Arrah, a steel ring for Dol Dorn, and a leather ring for Dol Azur. Sometimes it’s best to wear your gold ring during a prisoner exchange to show honor and respect, other times it’s necessary to wear a leather ring during guerilla tactics when you do whatever is necessary to win. While it is still strongest in Karrnath, this fraternal order spread throughout Galifar via the academy of Rekkenmark, as generations of officers throughout all the nations joined the cult during their education.
While most followers of the mystery cult consider themselves Vassals and otherwise engage in those practices, the cult itself has few rituals in common with traditional Vassal worship of these gods. External views vary; some consider them heretical, some view them through a conspiratorial lens, but most people in Khorvaire are only dimly aware of its existence and at most consider it an oddity.
The Three Faces of War honors Dol Arrah, Dol Dorn, and Dol Azur (the Mockery). It was part of the united armies of Galifar, and cult chapters can be found in all of the armies of the Five Nations. Sect meetings provide a place for soldiers and veterans to interact as friends and equals, regardless of rank or nationality. The cult asserts that honor and courage are to be valued, but there is also a time and place for cunning and cruelty, even if it is never to be desired.

Karrn the Conqueror is a legendary hero. A thousand years before the rise of Galifar, Karrn came a hairsbreadth from establishing a Karrnathi dominion across Khorvaire. He was never defeated on the battlefield; it took the treachery of a trusted friend to bring down the Conqueror. Even though Karrn died with his dreams unrealized, his actions and teachings left a mark on Khorvaire that can be seen to this day. He was a soldier first and foremost, but Karrn was also a spiritual man; he was one of the founders of the Three Faces of War, a sect devoted to the wise Dol Arrah, the brave Dol Dorn, and the cunning Dol Azur, known as the Mockery.
Karrn the Conqueror is long dead, but his Analects of War is still studied in proud Rekkenmark and the fledgling war colleges of other nations. In the shadows of these institutions, the Three Faces of War watch and guide the generals of the next age. Adepts and initiates of the Three can be found in almost every army, with the notable exception of Thrane. This is a soldier’s faith. Its shrines are the battlefield and the rampart wall, and its blessings are blood and steel. Faith in the Three will not stop enemies from fighting; these are the Sovereigns of War, after all. But when two soldiers negotiate or meet in times of peace, the mysteries of the Three can provide a bridge and a bond between them. Even though he isn’t a spellcaster, Drago Thul is one of the most respected speakers of the faith, and this status has helped him sway soldiers of different nations.
The Three Faces of War is a variant sect of the Sovereign Host. Clerics of this faith can choose the halberd, longsword, or kama as a favored weapon (once this choice is made, it cannot be changed), and can select domains from those of Dol Dorn, Dol Arrah, or the Mockery.

Born in ancient Karrnath, a cult that swears fealty to Dol Dorn, Dol Arrah, and the Mockery has become a recognized and accepted fraternity among the armies of the Five Nations. Although some branches of the Three Faces of War are just what they appear to be, Mordakhesh has corrupted many others among its cells. Since a large number of the members of the sect are officers, Mordakhesh relishes the opportunity to shape the overall conduct of the coming war—promoting brutality and the pursuit of vengeance.
