Countess Asta ir’Vanalan, the Shield of Tamend, (halfling she/her) defends Tamend County (about a fifth of the Talentan border) from Valenar raiders. The Vanalan family was only recently ennobled in 995 YK, recognizing Asta’s military prowess and filling the vacancy left by the ir’Jennrei line when its last eligible scion was slain on the Day of Mourning on a military excursion into Cyre. The Shield of Tamend is firmly aligned with the Karrnathi crown and hopes to promote stronger ties between Vasfold and the western cities.
Viscount Brandin ir’Dulinch (dwarf they/them) manages the day-to-day operations of the fort and its immediate surroundings. The garrison remains under strict orders to minimize and control engagements with any trespassing elves, but the viscount chafes at the crown’s restrictions; they would prefer to directly confront the elven raiders, thinking this would put an end to the assaults.
Countess Valan has opened much of the land for sale in response to the depletion of farmers from the region, both from emigration and the attrition of those slain by raiders, hoping to return the fields to providing food for the nation filling her tax coffers. Even foreigners are eligible to purchase stakes, although they must be neither Cyran nor an elf from Valenar and they must swear fealty and thus citizenship to the nation of Karrnath.
