Introduction
Elysian Tales is an interactive storytelling experience based on the rules of the hit game Dungeons & Dragons. Five close, young-adult, friends step into a world filled with political intrigue, ancient prophecies and personal battles. Set in a morally complex fantasy world, each story (or Tale) is characterized by philosophical themes that echo and reflect the real lives of the players. As their characters progress through Tales of change, identity and growth, the players will find themselves on a parallel journey and find what it really means to choose your own destiny.
Our Story
Elysian Tales didn’t start with any grand ambitions. All the way back in 2020, we were just five friends having fun playing a fantasy tabletop role-playing game. But as the years passed, the game evolved into something more: a space for growth, reflection and stories that mirrored our own journey into adulthood.
At first, none of us took it too seriously. You pretend to be in a dungeon, whilst rolling dice to kill a dragon, all in the theater of the mind. But before long, we realized that these adventures were becoming something else entirely. We were 13 at the time and at the height of puberty. These stories we told and experiences weren’t just epic fantasy plots with dragons and kings. They became mirrors that reflected our fears, doubts and the biggest question about growing up: who am I?
As we grew older and life became more serious, so did our characters. The game became our therapy, our philosophy class and our campfire stories all rolled into one. Years went by and the group changed multiple times. Friends left the table, new ones joined and then left as well, as people do in life. We learned things not only about ourselves, but also about each other, strengthening our bonds to levels I could have never imagined.
Beautiful or creative, divinely inspired, peaceful and perfect. It’s the dream behind every tale, including the one of our own. An Elysian world is not a given, nor is it a truth. It’s a pursuit riddled with obstacles and chaos that makes it easy to forget that we’re allowed to seek our own peace too. Elysian Tales is our reminder to create beauty in the struggle, to find meaning in the mess and to never stop reaching for something.
Every Tale tackles themes that hit home. Betrayal, trust, identity and responsibility are all aspects we must encounter at least once. It’s personal, it’s raw, but always real. Elysian Tales isn’t just about telling stories. It’s about living them, challenging them and finding truth and peace in the chaos of life. We blur the line between reality and fiction and create a space of growth and self-acceptance.
