Wildlands

Nation

To the west parts of Caldar, lies a secluded part of the land, a narrow stripe of grasslands, divided by rivers and cliffs. Isolated from the rest of the continent and facing the Endless Sea this land held little value to the conquering nations of the 2nd era. It was a paradise though, for races that dislike the stone-cold cities, the cobblestone roads, and the constant buzz of a metropolis. The races who decided to settle there built no grand cities, but humble settlements. They never grouped up into anything larger than a tribe but they still worked well together. Before Darna turned its island into a prison, many of those who sought to escape, fled to the Wildlands, where the hand of civilization couldn't extend. Over the centuries some groups of exiles tried to build settlements there. While there were no reports of aggression from the locals, those settlements all fell into ruin and were abandoned mysteriously. The ruins of such settlements now serve as reminders that this land does not welcome architecture or the wonders of civilization.

Geography

The Wildlands is naturally split into three parts. The upper part features heavy pine forests, where light barely hits the ground. A large lake has become the center of the local tribes to build around and a narrow passage in the northern mountains gives a way into the nearby elven kingdom. The lower part features vast plains and grasslands, with grass so tall that any humanoid could easily hide even when standing up. A central lake here as well has been the focal point for the local tribes. The middle part dips its fingers in both environments, having forests and grasslands almost at equal ratios. Even more, lakes fill the middle part and it has the harshest climate of all three, as the cold mountains of Ironbeard and the sea storms of the west bombard the place with wind, rain, and cold.

Government

There's no official government in the Wildland, but each of the three parts has a dominant tribe always. The leaders of those three tribes hold a meeting when decisions need to be taken, but otherwise, rule their respective parts as they see fit. Each tribe has its own traditions and customs of how to elect leaders and as power between tribes shifts, things change often. It is not unheard of for tribes to fight for the ruling seat.

Demographics

Wildlands house a variety of races including Shifters in the south, Goliaths in the middle-east, and Firbolgs in the north, Genasi are equally spread and many Githzerai fled here and made their creches after TorNav'Roc was destroyed. By the end of the 3rd era, Half-Orc and Tabaxi also made small settlements in the south.

Relations

The residents of the northern parts kept good relations with the elves, guarding and respecting their borders. In the south, when Orcs first arrived, some skirmishes with the Shifters occurred a border was settled quickly and both parties withdrew. The Goliaths who prefer the high mountains often clashed with greedy dwarves who were trying to establish mining colonies above their borders.
