Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different)

Ezekiel grew up in a large town on the continent of Darna. He spent much of his time in Darna at either the Evris Vineyard (where his brother and father worked) or at teh Eastside Medical Academy, where he trained as a surgeon.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now?

Evelyn and Michael Evris are the parent to Uriel and Ezekiel. Evelyn has passed away while Michael still lives at the Vineyard and operates it during his retirement.

How did your attribute scores affect your character?

Having a intelligence and low wisdom has made Ezekiel an unnecessarily serious and tightly-wound person. Because of his medical training, he takes every situation seriously because he knows how easy it is to get life-threatening injuries. Also through his medical training, he has learned how to lead and direct others during stressful situations, and, although he is not always tactful in the things he says, others trust him because of the training he has.

What made your character obtain the class they have now?

After "The Incident", Ezekiel carried guilt for not being able to save his mother from dying. After finding small amounts of the woman's blood, he took it to the medical academy. He conducted every experiment and combed every tome in the library at the medical academy, and all he could find is whispers of a strange occult ritual and otherworldly blood sucking humanoids.. Having nothing to lose, Zeke conducted the ritual. He could feel a sinister power pulling at his spirit, but nothing else happened, so Zeke turned his attention to searching for the woman himself.

Later on, Zeke could feel the call of the Lord. He agreed to a deal with The Lord: in exchange for giving Zeke a sliver of his power, The Lord wanted Zeke to ensure the continued prosperity of the humanoid world. Zeke knew from the research he had done that The Lord was connected to this woman that attacked his family, so he agreed without a second thought.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start?

Revenge mostly, but the promise of new knowledge also intrigued him

What people are important for your character?

His brother, Uriel
His father, Michael
Mileena Argo, one of Ezekiel's patients; Ezekiel used to treat Mileena for some suspicious wounds she had; he later learned that she was a thief attempting to steal drugs from the academy. Ezekiel did not turn her in

-Uriel is his twin brother

-Trisha is an eladrin woman that has helped Uriel and Zeke look for traces of the woman that attacked their family

He has promised that if I ever become a monster, then he has to stop me.

If nothing happened, what short/long term goals does your character have?

Ezekiel would be a military surgeon or battle medic.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for?

While he can be stiff and serious, Ezekiel is loyal and helpful. He might come off as being too stuck-up or high-strung, but he has a naturally caring attitude.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?

Ezekiel knew that Mileena was stealing medicine from the academy, but he did not stop her. Eventually, he learned that she was selling the stolen medicine to different groups across Darna. Because he was working to become a military medic, Ezekiel heard about a raid on a bandit camp (one that Mileena frequently traded with) happening soon. Some of the guards knew that Ezekiel was close with Mileena and they threatened to have him kicked out of the medical academy and have his father's military retirement revoked if Ezekiel warned her about the raid. He did not tell her, and she ended up getting arrested, along with the rest of the bandits.

People from the academy that might have found out that he knew Mileena was stealing and didn't stop her

Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max]

Fenthick grew up on the streets of a medium sized city (at-least some commerce, sense of society, and infrastructure), orphaned at a young age (no memory other than the streets).  This city would be located near/in forests where he would build his wilderness survival skills over time – surviving by both foraging (and later hunting) and the food/medicine provided by the orphanage. He has traditionally lived in and around that city (wilderness + neighboring towns).

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max]

Fenthick was raised by what attention and support the orphanage could provide, the community of other orphans/urchins, and the cold harsh realities of both the street and the wild. He routinely sends money and other resources to the orphanage when he has the resources but otherwise doesn’t visit. Doris Stoutheart and Sybil Thamisa ran the orphanage, Utab (fellow orphan, half orc) was his confidant and partner in crime – they at times gleefully cross paths.

How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max]

Fenthick has always relied on speed, strategy, and finesse to get the upper hand in both life and combat. At a young age, Fenthick would quietly swipe his portion of food before it made its way to the table or from those who wrestled it from him. This dexterity became a major part of his toolset for life as he refined his ability to infiltrate, escape, outmaneuver, and hunt. Meanwhile, a life on the street and within the wilds demanded Fenthick persevere with resilience or perish, and to develop the wisdom to know when to run or stay and fight. Fenthick was never particularly strong nor smart, but neither was he weak or slow. Given his place in life, his lack of tact and at times gruff perspective of the world makes him an extremely poor communicator – especially to those who do not know him.

What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max]

The skills of a ranger naturally came to Fenthick over time; stealthing through the streets and wilds to forage for food, stalking both a vain mark in the city and the deer in the clearing. To survive, he learned how to hide, track, flight, and flee in both the wild and the sprawl of the city.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max]

Trying to get to some degree of stability without a need to have to pilfer for his next meal. He finds success here and there, slowly building resources, paying off debts, and sending a portion back to the orphanage that ensured he didn't starve. Shortly before the campaign, he completed a bounty for a small group of bandits, giving him a fresh start – without debt – and coin in his pocket.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max]

Danger has always been part of Fenthick’s life, sometimes more quietly and sometimes that is all that seemed to exist. Adventuring presented a guaranteed risk with an opportunity for safety and comfort on the other side; a danger he could choose opposed to be subjected to – his way to choose his path in the world opposed to having it forced upon him. Freedom.

Which people are important for your character? [75 words max]

The orphanage, in particular both Doris and Sybil, along with Utab whom he considers family. By extension, he feels a natural pull to those who are downtrodden and vulnerable – particularly the cruel and unearned twists of fate.

What connections does your character have to the other player characters? [175 words max]

Fenthick would often watch those on the road or as they come into town; looking for both marks and those in need who deserve help. At times, he would offer aid in the form of a guide to those who entered - both in the city and surrounding land. This was sometimes straightforward work; guiding those who need help away from hazards and towards what they desire. Other times, it was to get closer to an ideal mark for his redistributive justice.

He met Vigo when he came to town, identified an easy mark, and offered his services as a guide to help the beaming paladin. Vigo was looking for a mage and Fenthick was glad to provide his services for a fee, and an opportunity to take something from his pocket. Fenthick guided Vigo to the mage, having heard of her from Utab, who saw her traveling through town. Fenthick met Sister Teddy when he accidentally poisoned himself learning poisons sometime much later. Luckily, she was traveling nearby (in town, wild, etc) and was able to aid him.

Name a promise you have made to another player character that you would never break. [75 words max]

To aid you whenever you visit my region and need help, out of repayment for your kindness to me.

If nothing happened, what short/long term goals does your character have? [75 words max]

Build security and safety in terms of possessions, friendships, and his profession. As those goals are being accomplished, he would continue his own approach to redistributive justice and sharpening his skills. Quietly, in the back of his mind, his thoughts would wander to where he came from and why he was left - tempted to explore these questions but apathetic and unhopeful in his success.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for? [75 words max]

While he is gruff and doesn't particularly care about what people think, he earnestly does care for those that are close to him, he tries to be kind in his actions if not his words, and he consistently acts in alignment of what he considers good and just despite the consequences to himself. Aside from ensuring his own stability and safety, his only real desires are to grow his skills and protect the vulnerable.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?[75 words max]

As a young urchin, he stole a small store of gold he overheard was under the floor boards of a small family's house.  The next day he used it to buy food, clothing, and donated the rest to the orphanage secretly. Several days later, he heard that the family did not have the funds to take their daughter to seek healing after disease struck - she died shortly after.

This is more for plot hooks. It could be a missed opportunity or something they feel bad about.

Those he stole from, those he has sabotaged out of what he considered vigilante justice, those he has taken a bounty on or helped the law identify. Fenthick routinely works with both sides of the law.

Optional plot hook.

Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max]

I was born in Ironbeard, a majestic stronghold nestled within granite peaks. While its grandeur was unparalleled, my path led me elsewhere. I journeyed to a smaller enclave, similar in makeup but not as grand in stature. Here, among its humble stone corridors and echoing chambers, I trained as a warden, vowing to protect its people and secrets. This unassuming bastion, reminiscent of my birthplace, is the haven I now call home.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max]

Raised by my stern father Dorn and caring mother Elara, alongside my two brothers, Brevik and Jorund, I was taught the values of honor and diligence. Dorn, a master blacksmith, instilled discipline, while Elara shared tales of our ancestors, kindling my imagination. Brevik, ever the jester, kept our spirits high, whereas Jorund and I explored the mountains' mysteries. Today, Dorn and Elara oversee Ironbeard's forges, Brevik trades in distant lands, and Jorund trains the next generation of wardens.

How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max]

With a Herculean strength and an iron-clad constitution, I am a formidable presence on the battlefield. My blows land with devastating force, and I can withstand physical challenges that would fell many others. I'm the bulwark, the frontline defender my companions can rely on, but my sheer physical prowess often overshadows other aspects of my character.

My dexterity is average, making me not as nimble or quick as some of my lighter-footed companions. Precision tasks or quick maneuvers are not my strong suit, and I tend to rely more on my brute force approach.

However, my lower intelligence and wisdom often means I'm not the best at strategizing or picking up on intricate details. Complex puzzles, arcane lore, and discerning motives or lies can elude me. Moreover, my notably low charisma means I'm not the most eloquent speaker or diplomat. Social interactions can be awkward; I might come across as brusque or inadvertently offensive. But beneath this rough exterior, my dedication to the warden's path and my companions is unwavering, even if I sometimes struggle to express it.

What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max]

In Ironbeard's shadows, I witnessed a warden single-handedly protect a hamlet from a Winter Wolf. Their harmony with the land and unmatched valor captivated me. It was Jorund, my oldest brother, who introduced me to the warden's path, revealing its sacred bond with nature and duty to defend. Their teachings, coupled with my innate desire to shield those in need, drew me to embrace the warden's mantle, melding the strength of stone with the heart's steadfastness.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max]

Over the last few years, I've been assigned to a garrison guarding the Stone Pass, a critical junction between our homeland and the outside world. The increasing threats of wandering beasts and rogue bandits kept me vigilant. When not on duty, I ventured deeper into the surrounding wilds, mastering the warden's rites and honing my connection to the land. Amidst these duties, I also helped rebuild a nearby settlement, reinforcing its defenses and training its inhabitants in combat.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max]

Amidst an unforgiving winter, a prophecy from deep within Ironbeard's ancient archives resurfaced. It didn't herald broad doom, but instead held a personal resonance for Clan Rockheart. The prophecy intimated a shadow that would challenge our unity and esteemed legacy. When the chilling words spread, they cast a solemn mood across every clan gathering.

On an unforgettable evening, a wise elder cross-referenced our clan's chronicles with the prophecy. His research hinted that the key to saving our legacy might be linked to the legendary Heartstone — a gem of unity and protection from our ancestral tales. Though its location remains a mystery, recent rumors suggest the first clue to its whereabouts lies in an old dwarven mine near Owlreach, a place now believed to be cursed.

With Clan Rockheart's future at stake, I became convinced that uncovering this clue was of paramount importance. As such, Owlreach, with its ominous mine, would be my initial destination. Leaving the storied halls of Ironbeard, I set forth on a mission not just of adventure, but of ancestral importance, with hopes of unveiling the Heartstone's location and reclaiming our clan's undying spirit.

Which people are important for your character? [75 words max]

My mother Elara, the keeper of our clan's tales, holds a special place in my heart, having shaped my values and beliefs. Her wisdom always guides me. Jorund, my oldest brother and mentor, is my anchor to the ways of the warden, reminding me of my responsibilities and roots. His teachings and camaraderie are invaluable. As the campaign begins, their words and lessons are my constant companions, influencing my choices and actions.

What connections does your character have to the other player characters? [175 words max]

Dave Goldtouch and I have a bond that extends beyond our immediate acquaintance. His uncle, Roderick, was someone I knew and respected deeply. Roderick's tales of young Dave were always filled with pride, and it's clear to see why. Each time Dave and I converse, I can't help but see a reflection of Roderick's teachings in him. It lends an inherent trust between us, having shared respect for someone who deeply impacted both our lives.

With Kavax, our connection is fresh but memorable. We had only recently crossed paths, yet a shared evening of dice games quickly solidified our rapport. That night, amidst the clatter of dice, playful bets, and hearty laughter, an unexpected bond was formed. In that brief span, I came to appreciate Kavax's spirit and character. Now, as we venture forth together, I'm grateful for these connections, both old and new, as they provide a foundation of trust and camaraderie in the challenges that lie ahead.

Name a promise you have made to another player character that you would never break. [75 words max]

I gave Dave Goldtouch my solemn word, amidst the echoing memories of his uncle Roderick's teachings. I vowed to stand beside him, shielding and supporting him through every battle and challenge, just as Roderick would have. To Dave, this wasn't just a promise of camaraderie; it was an oath bound in the spirit of mentorship and legacy, and one I intend to uphold with unwavering dedication.

If nothing happened, what short/long-term goals does your character have? [75 words max]

In a world untouched by strife, my foremost short-term goal would be to master the deeper rites of the warden, further binding myself to the land's spirit. Long-term, I'd envision establishing a sanctuary within the mountains, a place where aspiring wardens could train and where the weary could find solace. Merging Ironbeard's traditions with the vast knowledge of the wider world, I'd strive to fortify our bonds with nature and kin.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for? [75 words max]

My demeanor, forged in the stern halls of Ironbeard, is notably gruff, but it masks a deep sense of duty and loyalty. Those who take the time to know me understand that beneath my rugged exterior lies an unwavering commitment to my comrades. I value actions over words and have, on countless occasions, stood as the bulwark when danger loomed. It's this steadfast reliability, combined with my no-nonsense approach, that earns the respect and trust of fellow adventurers.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?[75 words max]

While stationed at Stone Pass, I received an invitation from a renowned warden elder to study advanced rites at a distant sanctuary. My commitment to my immediate duties, combined with a tinge of apprehension about the unfamiliar, led me to decline. I later learned the elder passed away that winter, taking with him a trove of unshared knowledge. The missed chance to learn and grow under such guidance is a regret that constantly reminds me to seize opportunities.

Are there any people that would wish harm to your character and why?[100 words max]

Galdar, a once-respected mason from Ironbeard. During a collaborative project to fortify Stone Pass, I discovered Galdar cutting corners, using subpar materials for personal profit. I reported his actions, resulting in his banishment from our homeland. Since then, Galdar has harbored a deep resentment towards me. Rumors suggest he has allied himself with shady factions, potentially seeking revenge for his ruined reputation. His intimate knowledge of Ironbeard's defenses, combined with his new alliances, poses a genuine concern for my safety and that of my kin.

In the midst of darkness, amidst a horde of nightmarish arachnid creatures led by a formidable Phase 2 entity that bore a striking resemblance to a Drider, stood Thrain Rockheart, a resolute Mountain Dwarf. He personified selflessness and valor.

As the tide of terror surged around them, Thrain confronted overwhelming odds with unwavering determination. Aware of the impending danger, he acted without hesitation, prioritizing his comrades' safety above all else.

In the bleakest hour, Thrain's indomitable spirit shone as a guiding light. The Drider-like Phase 2 entity, an embodiment of malevolence and guile, sought to extinguish their hope. It was then that Thrain's unyielding resolve clashed with the malevolent force.

Paralyzed and ensnared by his own shadow, Thrain endured torment few could comprehend. However, he remained steadfast, fighting the malevolent force with a heart filled with valor.

Ultimately, it was not the spiders or the Drider-like entity's sinister design that overcame Thrain Rockheart. It was his own unbreakable spirit, his willingness to sacrifice himself to protect those he cherished, that defined his legacy.

As the arachnids descended upon him, cloaking him in darkness, Thrain's sacrifice illuminated the path for his companions to escape the surrounding horrors. His memory will forever be etched in the annals of heroism, a testament to the enduring power of love, bravery, and selflessness.

Facing insurmountable darkness, Thrain Rockheart emerged as a guiding force, a Mountain Dwarf Warden who, in his final act of valor, demonstrated that heroes are born not of the strength of their arms but of the fortitude of their hearts. May his name be honored and revered, for he gave his all to ensure the safety of his companions, leaving behind a legacy as brilliant as the stars in the night sky.

Overview

[Type below:] Write a short (around 100 words) overview of who your character is. Content, written in orange letters like this, will not be visible when you are done. It's simply there to provide guidance]

Orrek is a mountain dwarf from a small hold deep in the Ironbeard mountains.  He is heavily scarred from an incident that occurred many years ago.  That same incident also left him with difficulties learning and communicating.  He is often quiet and withdrawn, having faced mocking and ridicule when he tried to participate in conversations.  Orrek is fanatically devoted to Iskar, and seeks to follow his teachings by perfecting his craftsmanship and aiding those need wherever he finds them.  He is equally devoted to destroying any monstrosities that prey upon the innocent and defenseless and will use every means in his power to defeat them.  With hammer and shield in hand he will bring the fires of Iskar's forge to the dark corners of Arda.

Early Life

[Type below:] Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max] The locations don't have to be named. It can be described. Growing up locations play a role on what your character knows about the area. Some races might have specific locations they came from. If uncertain, ask the DM.

Orrek grew up with his clan in a small hold deep in the mountains southeast of the Wildlands.  He was apprenticed in the forge where his father and brother already worked, while his mother tended to the hearth.  He has a natural aptitude for smithing, and was beginning to learn to brew his clan's secret beer recipe.  His life changed when the hold was invaded by a beast from below.  Although he was too young to fight, the creature broke through the holds outer defenses and rampaged through the halls slaughtering indiscriminately.  Orrek was nearly killed, but the timely intervention of the hold's clerics of Iskar finally drove the beast back and brought the onslaught to an end.

[Type below:] Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max] name at least 2 characters, preferably 3-4, that played an important role in your upbringing.

Orrek's father Hengram still toils at the forge within the clanhold, while his mother Hedrid continues to care for their home.  His brother Orbet, bitter from having lost an arm to the beast from below, left the hold to find his fortune on the surface.  After a long convalescence, Orrek joined the temple of Iskar; impressed with how they were able to defeat the fiend that killed so many of the clan.  Thradil the high priest of the temple, took a personal interest in guiding Orrek, and helped him to recognize Iskar's will.  Finally, when he was not needed at the temple, Orrek spent countless hours back at the forge under the guidance of the forge master Kranog, who gave him the honorific 'Hammerborn' due to how he seemed to come alive at the forge, working with a skill and precision rarely seen, even among dwarves.

[Type below:] How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max] How did your strengths and weaknesses formed your life? For instance, did a 20 STR push you into manual labor, as you could handle it easily? Did a low CON make you often sick and had to travel to the capital for medicine? Did a high CHA make it easy to make friends?

STR 17 - Dwarves do not indulge idleness at any age.  Early on Orrek worked at the smithy with his father and brother.  Years spent hauling ore, pounding with hammers, and shoveling mountains of coal gave him a prodigious strength.

DEX 12 - While he would never be considered graceful, Orrek learned just how to turn the metal and strike it true to achieve the desired shape.  His hands are capable of working with delicate metals such as gold and silver as well as hard steel.

CON 17 - A life spent toiling hour after hour in the heat and smoke of the forge left him capable of tremendous endurance.  While focused on his work, he often fails to even recognize that a full day has passed with little to eat and no rest.

INT 5 - Dividing all his time between his craftwork and his time at the temple of Iskar has left Orrek with little understanding of other topics.  His early injuries only added to this naivety, making it difficult for him to understand even basic concepts that others grasp with ease.

WIS 17 - What he lacks in comprehension, he makes up for in simply being attuned to the world around him.  With a mind unencumbered by complex thoughts, he instead pays attention to what is happening around him.  At all times he is alert for subtle messages from Iskar that guide him to his next task.

CHA 5 - Orrek's single mindedness in most things leaves little thought for social niceties.  He rarely remembers to bathe, put on fresh clothes, or work a comb through his tangled hair.  Furthermore, he knows that he often gets lost in conversations and prefers to keep to himself to avoid being ridiculed.

Defining Events

[Type below:] What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max] Why did you become a Fighter and not a Barbarian? What incident pushed you to your class choice?

When he witnessed the priests of Iskar driving back the foul beast that killed so many of his friends and clansmen, Orrek made an oath that very day to learn the power of Iskar so that he too could defend those he loves against any who might prey upon them.  He will never fail to aid those who need his protection and will never rest while a threat remains to be defeated.

[Type below:] What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max] In the last 2–3 years, what had your character been doing?

In recent years, Orrek has been finishing his training at the temple.  Recognizing that there was little left that he could teach Orrek within the halls of the clanhold, Thradil decided to send him out to experience some of the surface world.  Recently traders have mentioned that the mines at Owlreach have been abandoned, but with no mention of why.  Seeing an opportunity Thrandil has tasked Orrek with traveling to the small village to find out what happened to the mine, and try to help the small community of dwarves there if they are in need of aid.

[Type below:] What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max] Nobody decides to endanger themselves without good reason. Were you forced to leave your previous lifestyle? What happened that changed you from a safe job, like a farmer, to an adventurer?

[Type below:] What short/long term goals does your character have? [75 words max] If the world continued in its peaceful state, what would you'd be working towards for?

Orrek has very simple aspirations in life, he wants to deliver the message of Iskar to all who are willing to listen, demonstrate his devotion to the god of crafts by perfecting his smithing skills, and provide aid to whomever is in need (particularly fellow dwarves).  He dreams of one day building a temple-forge to Iskar and bringing others into the faith, but he is concerned that he isn't smart enough to build such a holy place nor charming enough to lead it.

[Type below:] What are some good personality qualities that your character has as an adventurer? [75 words max] To ensure that the group doesn't have problematic characters everyone else will hate, tell us why would others trust and like your character as a fellow adventurer

Yasha Vissarionovich - One day while patrolling the Wildlands with a small company of the clan's warriors, they came across Yasha, a Goliath of a nearby tribe.  He was near starving and delirious from some recent tragedy that had befallen his people.  The other dwarves wanted to simply move on and leave the man to whatever fate had in store for him, but Orrek lingered behind, his mind turned to the teachings of Iskar that it was proper to help those in need.  Throughout the night Orrek stayed by Yasha's side while he recovered his strength and his wits.  The next day they parted as friends, and have occasionally visited each other over the years.  When Orrek was tasked with traveling to Owlreach, he first went to his friend Yasha to ask if he would accompany him on the journey.  The thought of traveling such a long distance on the surface made Orrek quite nervous, and he knew he would feel more comfortable with a friend by his side.

Bridgid Blackthorn - Orrek met Bridgid while visiting Rustmill with his mentor Thradil.  They spent time together in the village chapel helping to heal and care for the villagers and their livestock.  Orrek grew to trust and appreciate Bridgid, as she seems to know intuitively just what needed to be done.  Even more importantly to Orrek, she didn't ask him too many complicated questions and instead was content to work side by side with him in relative silence.

Flaws

[Type below:] What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?[75 words max] This is more for plot hooks. It could be a missed opportunity or something they feel bad about.

Orrek is secretly ashamed that he was unable to fight back against the beast that killed so many of his friends and maimed his brother.  Even though he was too young at the time to fight, he feels like he should have been able to do something rather than just cower in fear.  If he ever encounters the creature again, he hopes he will have the courage to face it and desttroy it, but he is worried that the terror of that day will overcome him and he will end up fleeing.

Furthermore, Orrek deeply misses his brother, who left the hold to wander the surface after being greviously injured in the attack.  They haven't had any word from his brother since he left, and Orrek will go to great lengths to find and reconnect with his brother if the opportunity arises.

Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.)

Sho grew up in the Longchamp home, but after beginning his journey as a wandering merchant, he considers the road and his pack his home. He is currently doing business in Greenview, but plans to head out soon.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now?

Sho was taught how to be a merchant by his father, Merc, and was shown the basics of potion making by his mother, Rota. They are currently still handling business affairs for the Longchamp family.

How did your attribute scores affect your character?

Sho was always naturally gifted with his words and conversational skills, being able to beat most of his cousins in arguments or debates, and focused his ability into his mercantile foundation with help from his father. As well, he was taught that any good merchant either hired bodyguards, or knew how to defend themselves. Sho chose to learn how to defend himself with bow and dagger, which helped when he started to learn about throwable concoctions from his mother. He was quite oblivious to things, however, always getting fooled by lies, overlooking obvious details, or reaching for the wrong ingredients. Coin, however, never escapes his eyes.

What made your character obtain the class they have now?

He combined the training from his parents, both practices of which he quite enjoyed.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start?

He has been trying to establish himself as a travelling potion salesman, but he has a severe lack of potions, so its not going to well. And, of the revenue he does make from selling potions, it never seems to add up to what he is supposed to have.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers?

Sho's mother encouraged him to go around the world and collect various ingredients for making his potions and poisons, and his father helped train him for the danger he might run into. While he was hesitant to leave at first, the main family had need of a family member who could set out and expand the business, and was practically forced to take the opportunity by his parents.

Which people are important for your character?

Important people to him are his parents, the Longchamp family in general, and Nin, his girlfriend back home.

What connections does your character have to the other player characters?

Sho met Hiyamano and Whisper when he got to Greenview as customers for his potions. Little did he know, with some help from a friendly paladin named Drath, Whisper was stealing some of his money back after his purchases. Drath has started helping Sho deter thieves, and Whisper is in his employ to pay off his debt from stealing from him.

Name a promise you have made to another player character that you would never break.

Whisper is to work for me until he has repaid all of the money he has stolen from him, not a copper over. Paid employment can be offered afterward.

If nothing happened, what short/long term goals does your character have?

To expand the Longchamp business, make a name for himself as a travelling potion and poison salesman, marry his girlfriend, and try to make the most potent potion or poison possible.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for?

Sho is a friendly face who sells potions during the day, and a cloaked figure who deals poisons after dark.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?

He once passed up the opportunity to study under an experienced apothecary, but declined due to his current mission for himself and from his family.

Are there any people that would wish harm to your character and why?

Probably anyone connected to someone who was killed with a poison he made, assuming they could track it back to him.

Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max]

Born and raised in the bizarrely colorful lands of Fairy's Rest along her brother. Both insatiably curious felt trapped within the island and looked to travel the world they have been closed off from. Home is presently always changing but her parents currently reside in Razorleaf.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max]

Ivellios Nailo: Alxana's father. He is calm and collected man however his adamant and reserved nature sometimes makes him seem cold. He is a very traditional man. Ivellios is obsessed with knowledge of his people. There's rumors amidst the common folk that his bloodline is deeply connected to the fragment Nimrodel but there seems to be no real proof of this.

Althaea Nailo: Alxana's mother. She has a fiery spirit and charismatic nature, always looking for amusement. Althaea shares her husband's thirst for knowledge but she is a lot more interested with the workings of the world and its nature.

Zaarx Nailo: Alxana's brother. He exceled in combat skills such as archery and swordsmanship however his ability to connect with people was lackluster. Often he forgot how to speak and stumbled over his word when he could muster them. Alxana and his parents were the only ones he could speak to properly. He is dead.

How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max]

How did your strengths and weaknesses formed your life? For instance, did a 20 STR push you into manual labor as you could handle it easily? Did a low CON make you often sick and had to travel to the capital for medicine? Did a high CHA make it easy to make friends?

What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max]

Alxana, being the older sibling, always felt the need to be over protective of her brother so when they set out to travel the world together she took up the sword and board to keep her dear brother safe.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max]

Before leaving Fairy's Rest, Alxana spent years practicing her swordsmanship under her father. when she wasn't training her blade she spent her time exploring the lands she lived in.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max]

One day her brother went missing foe a worrying amount of time. He'd usually go out to the forest and roam while Alxana trained with their father but this day he didn't return. he was a skilled archer and decent with the sword but still Alxana couldn't shake her instincts in feeling something was wrong.

The world may be peaceful but there is always people in need of help and unprecedented dangers lurking.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for? [75 words max]

Alxana is kind to a fault. She will constantly place others before herself and attempt to help in any way she can so long as the task does not distract her from her oath for too long.

This is more for plot hooks. It could be a missed opportunity or something they feel bad about.

Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max]

Ivaldi (short for Ivaldiraniceretesti) was an orphan, abandon as a babe within the borders of the Eratus Empire proper. He was brought to one of Arzen's many churches that eventually became his home, where the Father Raithwill provided a wet-nurse, and ensured an education for the child at an orphanage. As an adult, Ivaldi spends most of his time assisting Father Raithwill at the church, when he is not working with the Fire Legion.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max]

Father Raithwill Heavensworn, a priest & cleric of Arzen's faith, provided the bare minimum of care to Ivaldi as a child, but even that was more than his previous family - whoever they were - ever offered him. It was through his tutelage that Ivaldi became who is today, and he continues to look up to him, as he also looks up to his martial trainer - Barnacletheosis Severendarius - who instilled within him the core principles, tenets and tactics that Ivaldi continues to withhold to this day.

How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max]

There was never a shortage of physical work that needed doing in Eratus. Adding the constant legionnaire training, as well as his own personal work routine, Ivaldi was a hulk of hewn muscle, hidden behind his armor. He was a bit above average when it came to more delicate movements, but his athleticism made up the slack. And as much as he trained his body, he trained his mind equally, if not more so, taking in the teachings of faith and the logistics of strategies and economics, you wouldn't know it at first glance to believe him to be as much of an intellectual as he is. Unfortunately, all his time spent devoted to himself left his social life wanting, or it would if he knew what it was to be sociable. Outside of a chosen few, Arzen is the only entity that Ivaldi speaks to - even if only in prayer - wholeheartedly.

What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max]

Ivaldi  believes himself capable of channeling Arzen's divinity through himself, yet he chose to become a Fighter to be as versatile as possible. He may not be as impressive as those fully dedicated to martial or clerical prowess, but he has dabbled in a bit of everything to ensure his future is paved to allow pursuit in any field without fear of failure. Although he would never openly admit it, he feels at home with a blade in his hands.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max]

Training his skills with the blade and applying his natural, radiant soul gifts to his battle tactics while working within Eratus' training camps, as well as applying those same gifts to his prayers and faith at the church, to heal and soothe those seeking solace & sanctuary. This process would be repeated over many years, slowly increasing his proficiency and efficacy in both fields, all the while going on local missions within Eratus' borders.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max]

As an orphan, Ivaldi only knew life within the church as a page, as well as within the legions as a warrior-in-training. He was groomed to be a faithful soldier of his own choosing. He never became an adventurer, as he was satisfied with life as a soldier & priest within the Eratus Empire. It is only recently, when their stronghold in Unified Caldar made the request for more reinforcements, that Ivaldi decided he was ready to leave the homeland and apply his skills in more dangerous territory, in the hopes of obtaining & advancing his rank with the Legions more quickly.

Which people are important for your character? [75 words max]

Does Arzen count? He may be a god, but He's still a person... right? Otherwise, the priest/father that managed the church that he was raised in as an impromptu home, Father Raithwill. While they didn't raise Ivaldi, they provided for him, gave him a home, guided his teachings and fostered the faith within Arzen that he now cherishes above all else.

What connections does your character have to the other player characters? [175 words max]

Two other warriors among a litany of Eratus' faithful - Austen & Belethor - were on the same ship as Ivaldi that left to join the ranks of the Fire Legion in Unified Caldar in search of the criminal that murdered Arzen's most faithful. While they didn't converse much prior, they fought well together during the long voyage, surviving wave after wave of battles aboard the vessel. Over time, they synchronized their movements with each others, effectively improving their chances of survival. Eventually, they ended up becoming fast friends, sharing battle tactics and stories to pass the time, when not being harried by harpies, sirens, or some other monstruous sea creature.

Name a promise you have made to another player character that you would never break. [75 words max]

WIP (until Sagar reveals his character).

If nothing happened, what short/long term goals does your character have? [75 words max]

Further demonstrating his faith and striving to pursue ever greater heights and ranks within the Fire Legion, to prove that the time spent grooming them was not wasted, that there is great potential for growth yet to reveal itself. Ivaldi wishes to one day become a prominent, faithful leader within Eratus.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for? [75 words max]

Ivaldi is a skilled combatant; applying his faith to his fighting style in a variety of ways. Even without arcane or clerical gifts, he is able to provide small bursts of healing both to himself & others, all while also debilitating enemy forces. His companion also provides support in tandem, providing the same benefits. Outside of battle, he is quite proficient in a multitude of fields to ensure better survivability. He is also honest to a fault.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?[75 words max]

There was a time when Ivaldi was presented an offer to learn more of his origins, when some travelers visiting Eratus paid a visit to his temple during their journey, with tales of lands and peoples bearing resemblance to himself - both as an Aasimar, as well as in features. But Ivaldi felt he had no need to learn of such things, as they had no bearing on his life until now. He regrets not taking time away from his daily duties to potentially learn more of his origin.

Are there any people that would wish harm to your character and why?[100 words max]

Ivaldi is wholeheartedly devoted to Arzen and upon delivering his words to those he encounters. It is possible that those that worship other fragments, or refute Arzen's will & testament, may see him as a zealot, or even a fanatic, spreading fear in those of opposing faiths. Such people(s) may see a need to rid the world of one such an entity.

Backstory

Anders grew up in northern Aldion, near the border of Razorleaf. Now, home is wherever the coin leads him. Preferably a place with a clean bed, but you can't always be choosy

Anders' mother was a cobbler and raised him until her death when he was 15. His uncle worked as a local guard captain and trained Anders to defend himself from an early age. Following the death of his mother, Anders took found work on a merchant ship but found the money lacking. After mooring briefly in Blackden, he took work on a pirate ship and learned to defend himself further.

Anders was always nimble, and thus took to life on the sea naturally. His keen eye also proved itself useful on the open water, both to spy for land or hostile vessels. He's hearty and could sail any sea before him, but he's hopeless trying to navigate a social interaction

Sailors can't succumb to rage. You can't scare the sea, so you need your wits about you when she starts fighting you. The day a sailor loses his wits, is the day he becomes crabfeed.

Anders has been working as an information broker and hired muscle in Unified Caldor following his last expedition. His respect as a smuggler may be gone, but he won't crack under pressure, and he's good with a blade.

Anders' last voyage saw him break the cardinal rule of a smuggler: The cargo is not your business. Just get it to its destination in one piece. His last voyage found him smuggling a powerful item for a private party out of the Eratus Empire. Upon learning its power, however, Anders thought it best that no one possess it, and he buried it at sea. But his conscience cost him all credibility as a smuggler and made fresh enemies out of his buyer, as well as the individual he stole the item from.

Anders has found himself alone in recent years, having little more than general acquaintances and pleasantries with the shopkeeps and merchants of Owlreach. He's particularly fond of a local smith, Bennet Nevda, and his wife, a local tavern keeper named Mary. They took him in when he was forced to abandon his last ship and settle inland.

Anders has crossed paths with Night Kantly a handful of times in the past, though always in a professional capacity. He's never been able to get a read on the fellow, but they've never quarreled. Similarly, Aurgan Nalakina has helped Anders on a number of occasions that required more brawn than Anders could muster. Ava Shassi assisted Anders on his final voyage and ultimately helped Anders realize what it was he had in his possession and its power.

Anders spent a lot of time chatting with Aurgan during their various interactions on the docks, and after Anders lost his ship. He swore to Aurgan that if he ever managed to get himself another ship, he'd bring Aurgan along to show him more of the world that he had yet to see.

In a perfect world, Anders would return to the Eratus Empire, and travel the seas with Leina as he had intended.

Anders is a man you can trust. You may roll your eyes at him more than you actually speak to him, but his word is his bond.

Anders had a paramour in the Eratus Empire, Leina, who nearly saved him from himself and his last voyage. It was supposed to be a job that could fund the rest of their lives. But when Anders squandered the cargo, he squandered any chance of being able to keep Leina safe with him, and hasn't had the heart to see her since.

The wizard from the Eratus Empire who was in possession of the artifact Anders stole is likely still willing to pay a handsome sum for Anders' head, as is the buyer who never received their cargo.

More optional plot hooks: [I know information about an expensive famous item, that others want.]

Anders met a tragic death when he ventured away from his friends and got surrounded by horrible multi-legged creatures.

Overview

Orthus is a half-elf male in his early twenties, with a lean athletic build. His eyes are silver and his hair is white with a slight hint of blue. His skin is tough, like the underbelly of a dragon, with a pale-grey hue and a blue tinge. His sorcerer's power awoke in combat, when faced with true dread in the Forest of Many Colours. He seeks to grow stronger, learn more about the world, and build a life where he is independent and not beholden to anyone.

Early Life
Orthus grew up in the orphanage of Elmfall. He formed a close bond with another orphan, a half-elven girl, named Remornia. They were a bit rowdy and prone to getting into trouble. mostly due to Remornia's pride or Orthus' temper. In their early teens, they left the orphanage and decided to fend for themselves. Together, they faced off bullies, worked boring jobs for an extra hand full of coin, and found a mutual love of adventuring when exploring the Forest of Many Colours as many adventurers do.

They shared everything, held no secrets, and their relationship grew to more than friendship. Orthus was reliable, nimble, and quick to act, while Remornia was clever and sometimes outright devious. Both found they had a knack for charming their way into (or out of) things, and found it easy to make friends or connect with people. They did not possess the raw strength that some of the human boys had working on the farms, but found they had the skills suitable for crafting and even selling the many wares Elmfall offers. However, a life of adventure always beckoned, and their trips into the Forest of Many Colours ended deeper and deeper into the woods every time; sometimes lasting for days.

Defining Events

One fateful night in the forest, Orthus awoke and found himself alone. He sprang up, searching for Remornia. Calling after her, he drew unwanted attention and found himself facing off with monstrous creatures he had never seen before. The encounter with the vampire spawn awakened his dormant sorcerer's power. Frost burst from his palms like an avalanche, and it froze the creatures into solid blocks of ice. Or so he thought, until he saw the massive silver dragon looming behind him. It was a selfless act by a majestic creature, and nothing was asked for in return. "She'll need you to be strong," was all it said; an event that changed his life forever.

Remornia was different after that night. She told him everything about what happened. Or so he thinks.

Relationships

Remornia is all he has; their trust, love of adventure, and mutual goals of seeking power keep them bonded. Despite the changes, Remornia and Orthus share an enduring bond. Their understanding and shared history anchor them, even as their quests for power take them on different journeys. Elmfall may be in their past, but their connection remains unbroken.

Orthus also knows the power of teamwork and that there is strength in numbers. He tends to be quiet most of the time, but he is persuasive and sensible when he speaks. He might be a bit chaotic at times, like winter's wind, but his friends find him to be reliable and good at keeping his word. He also tends to have a knack for finding ways to make money, or extracting useful information or resources from other people.

Flaws

Haunted by the brush with undeath, Orthus has a severe distaste for the undead. Yet he is blind to Remornia's growing thirst for power and the means she would pursue to obtain it.

Overview/Backstory

Until adolescence Micah presented with all the common features of a gnome. He grew up with a family of gnomes in Lynev. The father, Ramses, was a retired wizard/ adventurer. After 100 years of adventuring, Ramses settled down and opened a bookstore. The entire gnome family worked together in this bookstore including: Rames, Micah, Lorilie (the mother), and Ziggy (the older brother). The family was well off despite the bookstore not seeming particularly profitable. The bookstore was filled with volumes of books collected from Ramses' time adventuring.

Micah spent his downtime at the store reading books on all topics and debating history and politics with a few of the regular customers. At age 12, swirling flame tattoos began to form on Micah’s left arm, torso, and neck. Simultaneously Micah began to manifest magical abilities.  Ramses, recognizing the magical abilities, encouraged Micah to produce magic through music and performance. Ramses also paid for Micah to receive formal training in several musical instruments.

As a teenager and young adult Micah began to use his formal music training to perform at local taverns. It was during the late nights at these taverns that Micah cultivated his charming personality (along with other social skills). Micah also met a dwarven woman named Korra during this time and the two developed a romantic relationship.

Through study of lineages (from books found in the bookstore) Micah was beginning to piece together that his heritage was something other than gnomish, but he never questioned his parents directly about his suspicions. Then the Great Sleep occurred…

After awakening from The Great Sleep Micah traveled to the homestead of Korra. When he arrived, he found spiders what he suspected were transformed versions of Korra and her family. He burned down the house and narrowly escaped. Afterwards he traveled from safe zone to safe zone until joining a group of adventurers at the Survivors Nest.
