Exploratory Mission #1

For Exploratory Mission # 1, your assignment is to collect data from the local inhabitants of Wc.203 for an initial reference dataset. Your directive is to survey at least 5 beings identified as "Human" and document their response to the query, "What is a Human?" before uploading these responses to the shared data repository.

Materials: Observation Log or Personal Communicator "Notes"; Documentation Utensil (as needed)

Data Collection Protocol:

Upon identifying an appropriate "Human" to interview, request permission to query them for a "class assignment," with reassurance that their participation and identity will remain anonymous. Upon receiving consent, ask the question, "How would you define a human?" (or an appropriate variation thereof; e.g. "how would you answer the question, 'what is a human'?".

Document their response in writing. If needed, and with prior consent, a recording device may be used to capture the response, which you will then transcribe before destroying the recording. You may choose to make observational notes about the apparent demographic features of the individual, but this is not required. No identifying information should be recorded or reported.

Transcribe your collected responses and submit them to the data repository (aka "The Form") by sol-date September, 21, 2025.

You may find that your interview subject wishes to learn more about the assignment or discuss the question or topic further. It is your decision whether to engage with such requests; however, it is generally encouraged that PiRs share additional insights gained from such interactions with the cohort for further consideration.

REMEMBER: You must not reveal the existence of the Intergalactic Federation of Planets, the Federation Archives, the Pleakley-in-Residence program, or the status of non-human beings present on planet Wc.203 to any native inhabitants.
