Ilene

Goddess of the Sun and Moon

Ilene presides over the celestial spheres as the Goddess of the Sun and Moon in Iozaria, embodying the aspects of light, twilight, and the lunar cycle. Her alignment of True Neutral reflects her role as a mediator of day and night, maintaining the balance between the sun’s warmth and the moon’s mystique. Once solely the deity of the moon, her pantheon expanded dramatically following the tragic demise of Roshan, the original sun goddess, at the hands of The Forgotten One.

The catastrophic event that led to Roshan's death resulted in the sun's light being snuffed out from the world. In response, Ilene ascended beyond her lunar dominion to resurrect the sun's vital flames, thus becoming the steward of both day and night. Her divine intervention restored equilibrium to the world, an act of selflessness that solidified her as one of the most revered gods across cultures and civilizations.

Ilene's annual tribute to her sister, Roshan, occurs on the Day of the Sun, when she amplifies the sun’s brilliance at its zenith, a celestial phenomenon that serves as a memorial to the lost deity and a reminder of Ilene’s enduring love.

As a deity integral to the daily lives of all societies, Ilene is known by numerous epithets among various cultures. The elves refer to her as "Celenil," the Weaver of Dusk and Dawn, the nomadic desert tribes call her "Arunrah," the Eye of the Horizon, and to the seafaring folk, she is "Marisal," the Beacon of the Tides.

Temples dedicated to Ilene are as varied as the names she is known by, yet all share common themes, celebrating the interplay of light and darkness. Shrines are often perched on high altitudes to be closer to her celestial domain, with observances and rituals that follow the sun's journey and the moon's phases.

Ilene's clergy are versed in the language of the skies, interpreting her will through the movement of celestial bodies. They are keepers of time, navigators of the seas, and the bridge between the mysteries of the night and the revelations of the day.

In the collective consciousness of Iozaria, Ilene is the eternal lightbringer, her story a poignant reminder of resilience and the capacity for renewal. Her worship is as ubiquitous as the sun's rays and as personal as the night's embrace, a testament to her omnipresence in the hearts and minds of the people.
