Backstory of Rexendell

The continent of Rexendell is a small part of the realm of Iozaria which is an almost endless sea spanning across the entire planet, with several different continents across it.

The origin of the world is unknown, some say it was created millions of years ago in a cosmic “burp”, others say it was made from an egg of a celestial turtle traveling through the astral sea. Most people however go by the belief that the world is the brainchild of Azuna, the Goddess of Tranquility, the organizer and visionary. She, along with the pantheon of Gods, created the world using the cosmic forge in the infinity of the universe, aeons ago, with everyone using their gifts to shape the world as we know it today.

The continent of Rexendell is populated by two mighty countries, the Empire of Moroxia and the Akstan Kingdom. These countries are for now at peace, though who knows what spark can set the kingdoms into turmoil.

The Empire of Moroxia was originally several smaller self-governing countries that were conquered by the tyrant Queen Syele Bouchard in the year 1043 of the Second Age. After 30 years of war and destruction the other kingdoms surrendered to the Queen and swore fealty, ending the conflict, but in turn subjugating their own lands and people to this foreign invader. The creation of Moroxia started the Third Age, which is where our campaign starts. The population is extremely varied, and the cities and towns are inhabited by all different kinds of races, but the South-Western Coast is primarily Elven.

The current ruler of Moroxia is King Triston Bouchard, who has ruled the land from Ravenforge for the last 53 years. Now in his 90s, his health is rumoured to be in decline, and there are great expectations of the next heir in line, his daughter, Princess Satine Bouchard, who is only 22 at the start of the story. The different regions of Moroxia are themselves ruled and overseen by the local Counts and Countesses, and the Dwarven King. The different regions are ruled from the following towns/cities:

  • The Western Coast - Ravenforge, King Triston Bouchard
  • The Central Plains - Elvenroth, Countess Usoa Zeri
  • The Wild North - Tempervale, Count Akadio Zetterlund
  • The Midlands - Elvenbridge, Count Paton Dutari
  • The Eastern Border - Khuzunzan, Thane Guldar Ironbreaker (King of the mountain)

The Akstan Kingdom is a smaller, and more compact kingdom. Most of the population is located in the Rhodian Highlands and the Lowlands (contrary to it’s name is not a poverty stricken region). The population is largely elven and human, with a few other races, but not as widespread as in Moroxia. Whitewall is the capital of the Akstan Kingdom. The Elf Queen Alynna Venra has only been in power for the last 400 or so years, but knows all too well about the history of Moroxia, and is ready to do whatever she can to avoid history repeating itself and the loss of her people.

To the north of Moroxia lies the Thax’ning tribes. This is a collection of orc tribes, all ruled under Murzol the Usurper, who took control and united the tribes after years of infighting. Murzol rules from the underground city of Darmurd, deep within the unnamed mountain ranges in the far north. Attempts to communicate and negotiate with the Thax’ning Tribes have been met with nothing but silence…

The Empire of Moroxia has no laws against religions of different kinds, but outlaws the worship of Emos and Yana. The most popular worship goes to Azuna, Phymera, Adea, Mova, and Eysus, the last mostly being worshipped in the Dwarven Cities of Khuzunzan and Ulgabbur. The Akstan Kingdom on the other hand only allows the open worship of Azuna, Phymera and the elven gods of Larenthian, Sashelas, Rillifane and Sehanine. An exception was made for the dwarven city Guzur, which is allowed to worship Eysus.

The whole continent is connected by a network of roads, which is mostly safe and patrolled close to the cities and towns, but the farther you are from civilization, the closer you are to danger. Rexendell is home to many different species and monsters, some coming from the Underdark and even other planes of existence. Most forests are dangerous to traverse alone, the safest being around the elven cities of the Western Coast, and the Rhodian Highlands.
