Paxton is an odd one. A friendly red dragon, that does not share the same urges and alignment that other chromatic dragons have.
As a new-hatched wyrmling, Paxton was saved from a Stone Giant from some villagers that heard the commotion whilst hunting in the area. They managed to chase away the Stone Giant, and the dragon, abandoned by it's mother for unknown reasons, immediately bonded with the villagers, most notably Mama Helja. They took the dragon to their village, and did their best to nurture and keep it safe. In return, this caused the dragon to be a full fledged member of the village. The citizens decided to rename the village to Dragonmount in honour of their new protector and friend. It has been with them for over four hundred years, protecting the village and villagers from harm, and protects travellers in the area from dangers, but knows not to approach strangers as they might have the wrong idea and attack him.
Whenever he meets someone new approaching the village or in need in the wild, he is careful to immediately reveal his intentions and name, in hopes that it will cease hostilities before they start.
As Gleamshroud was cursed to die by Nezznar Khalazza, the party asked Udall to send a protector in his place until they could find a cure. Paxton answered the call and flew to The Emerald Earth Sanctuary, standing as its guardian until Gleamshroud returns.
