This finely crafted crossbow is inlaid with intricate carvings depicting scenes of music and dance, nature and creation. It has a crank that, when turned, plays a harmonious melody and arms the crossbow, creating the necessary bolts on demand. It can be used as a musical instrument while retaining all the characteristics of a crossbow. A bard gains proficiency in playing the instrument if attuned to it.
You can use an action to play the instrument and cast one of its spells: Fly, invisibility, levitate or protection from evil and good. Once the instrument has been used to cast a spell, it can’t be used to cast that spell again until the next dawn. The spells use your spellcasting ability and spell save DC.
- Finale: This crossbow is a +3 weapon that deals an
extra 3d6 force damage on a hit. When you use it to attack, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration.
Roll the Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to the attack
roll and damage roll.
- When you hit a creature, you can trigger a melodic echo, forcing it to make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell DC or be stunned until the end of its next turn. This can be used once per long rest.
- Enhanced Inspiration: The size of your Bardic Inspiration die increases by one step (d6 becomes d8, d8 becomes d10, etc.). If the bardic inspiration is a d12, it becomes a d12+2.
- Thunderous Chord: As an action, you can strum the bowstring to emit a wave of music. Each creature in a 15-foot cone must make a Constitution saving throw equal to your spell DC. On a failed save, they take 4d8 thunder damage and become frightened of you, and if they are large or smaller are pushed 15 feet away. On a successful save, they take half damage and aren't pushed or frightened. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain expended uses on a long rest.
- Inspirational Virtuoso: When you use your Bardic Inspiration feature, any rolls below your Charisma modifier are treated as if you rolled your Charisma modifier.
- Harmonic Resonance: Once per long rest, you can use your reaction to absorb a spell targeting only you and not with an area of effect. The spell is stored in the crossbow and can be cast again as your action on a later turn, using a DC of 14 or your spell DC, whichever is higher. If the stored spell is not used within 1 minute, it is lost.
- Song of Reunion: Whenever the bard uses their
Song of Rest ability, any creature who benefits from the song also has
their maximum hit points increased by the number rolled. This increase
lasts until the next long rest. A creature can only gain this benefit once per long rest.
You can play the instrument while casting a spell that causes any of its targets to be charmed on a failed saving throw, thereby imposing disadvantage on the save. This effect applies only if the spell has a somatic or a material component.
