Orb of the Arcane Nexus

The mysterious orb the party found in the wizards tower of Theonius Grim in the Ruins of Equinfjord. Has the power to enhance the arcane powers of the wielder. The orb is covered by rings of flowing mechanics, almost appearing to be liquid and ever changing. 


Wondrous Item - Legendary (requires attunement by a spellcaster)


Arcane Amplification: The orb has 3 charges. While holding the orb, you can use a charge as part of casting a spell to align the rotating rings and focus the arcane energies within by attempting an Arcana Check (DC 20). On a successful check, the spell's damage is increased by one additional damage die, or the target has disadvantage on their saving throw against the spell (your choice). The orb regains all charges on a long rest.

Arcane Absorption: If the Arcana check fails, the arcane energies are absorbed by the orb, nullifying the spell you just cast. The spell slot used for the spell is still expended.

Arcane Shield: While holding the orb, you have a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws.

Orb Awareness: While attuned to the orb, you are aware of the presence of other powerful magical items within 100 feet, but not their exact nature or location.
