The Pocket Ball

Wondrous Item (Rare)


The Pocket Ball is a small, golden sphere with intricate, swirling patterns etched into its surface. In the centre of it lies a glowing gemstone. The user can use their action to place a Large or smaller creature into a state of magical stasis. The Ball can only contain one creature at a time.

The item is activated by speaking the command word while touching the target. A willing creature can remain in the Pocket Ball up to a week, while an unwilling creature must succeed on a DC 17 Charisma saving throw or be trapped inside the Pocket Ball. An unconscious creature makes this save with disadvantage. A hostile creature can only be contained in the ball for 1 minute. Once used, the orb recharges at dawn or can be recharged by expending a 5th-level spell slot.

Because of the haste in making of this item, there is a 10% chance each round for hostile creatures that stasis fails prematurely. In addition, whenever you place a creature in the ball or release it, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, trigger a Wild Magic Surge (PHB, pg. 104).

A creature can be released early by speaking the command word again.
