Icecrag Altar

Ancient Altar to Borealis

The Icecrag Altar is an ancient and revered site of religious devotion dedicated to Borealis, the Warden of Winter. Perched high above the frozen forests that surround it, this towering structure of glassy ice has been a focal point of worship for the Frost Giants and other cold-dwelling creatures for millennia. It is believed that the shrine once served as Borealis' first altar, a place where the primordial forces of ice and cold converged in the early ages of the world.

The origins of Icecrag Altar date back to the time when Frost Giants, descendants of the ancient Elementaris of Ice, ravaged the world in great hordes. These mighty beings, imbued with the raw power of winter, were among Borealis most devout followers. They constructed the shrine as a testament to their loyalty and as a place to offer sacrifices to their cold-hearted god. Icecrag Altar is said to be the very spot where Borealis's divine heart was first frozen by Skald, solidifying his transformation into the fickle and vengeful deity that now rules over the wintery realms.

The structure itself is a marvel of ancient craftsmanship, made entirely of a glassy, translucent ice that seems to refract the light of the sun in spectacular fashion. On rare clear days, the sunlight piercing through the shrine creates a dazzling display of colors, casting eerie, cold rainbows across the snow-covered landscape. This display is often seen as a sign of Borealis's favor, though it can just as easily be a harbinger of his wrath.

Within Icecrag Altar, many Frost Giants and other worshipers of Borealis offer sacrifices of blood and flesh, hoping to appease their god and gain his favor. The rituals performed here are often brutal and unforgiving, much like the god they seek to honor. The air is thick with the stench of blood and the chill of death, as the Frost Giants believe that only through such offerings can they stave off Borealis' fury and prevent the onset of the dreaded Everwinter.

Over the centuries, the Icecrag Altar has remained a place of dark power and foreboding, a symbol of the cold, unyielding will of Borealis. It stands as a reminder of the ancient pacts made between the Frost Giants and their god, and of the terrible price they pay to keep the Warden of Winter's icy wrath at bay.
