Crabs Carmilla, once a revered member of the Eldar Court, was one of the three sea hags of the infamous Coven of the Pearl. Known as Carmilla the Courageous in her earlier days, she was celebrated for her decisive victory over a band of Sahuagin raiders near Ship's End. Her noble stature as an Unknown—a protector of the seas and a wielder of powerful Water-Rifting abilities—had earned her a place of respect among the Atlans and a position of influence within the Eldar Court. However, her story took a dark and tragic turn.
Driven by envy and a deep-seated lust for power, Carmilla and her sisters in the coven grew increasingly discontented with their positions. They coveted the absolute dominion over the seas held by Avatar Typhon and sought to overthrow him. Yet, knowing that a direct confrontation with the mighty avatar would spell their doom, the Coven devised a more insidious plan. They entered into a dark pact with an ancient Aboleth dwelling in the abyssal trenches of Abythis, promising to deceive Typhon in exchange for The Penitent Pearl—a powerful and cursed artifact with the ability to corrupt even the strongest of minds.
Carmilla was the most profoundly affected by the pearl's corrupting influence. Her noble form as an Aesir twisted into that of a grotesque, crab-like hag, her body mutating into a monstrous reflection of her inner turmoil and obsession. She became known as Crabs Carmilla, a being cursed by the very power she sought to wield. Her mind, once sharp and strategic, was now fragmented and haunted by the whispers of the pearl, driving her further into madness.
Unable to bear the shame of her transformation, Carmilla fled to a remote cave guarded by the colossal Morkoth, deep within the shifting sands of Ship's End. Here, she hoarded sunken treasures, trinkets, and the remnants of long-lost ships, driven by an insatiable obsession with the fallen riches of the sea. Her connection with parasitic crabs grew, becoming eerie and symbiotic as they fed on her madness and served as both her protectors and companions.
Despite the loss of the Penitent Pearl to her sister, Mistress Mayven, the pearl's corrupting power continued to gnaw at Carmilla's sanity. The noble Water-Rifting abilities she once wielded with precision and grace were now twisted into dark, unpredictable outbursts of elemental fury. Her influence over the Atlans, once significant, had withered away as she descended deeper into madness, isolated from the world she once sought to rule.
Carmilla's tragic fall did not go unnoticed. Avatar Typhon, aware of the coven's treachery and the danger Carmilla posed in her corrupted state, tracked her down to her watery sanctuary. What he found was not the courageous Aesir he once knew, but a tormented soul, driven mad by her own ambitions and the dark power she had sought to control. In a final act of mercy, Typhon ended her suffering, delivering a swift and compassionate death to the once-noble councilor who had been consumed by the very forces she had sought to master.
Carmilla's tale serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the corrosive nature of power. Once a respected figure in the Eldar Court, she is now remembered as a tragic figure—a warning of the peril that lies in the pursuit of forbidden power.
