Verdictus, once known as Viridian in life, serves as the Arbiter of Judgment within the Plane of Oblivion, determining the fate of all souls that pass through death's gates. His transformation from a Mythar adjudicator of the ancient Mytharil Empire to the colossal, skeletal god of divine judgment was the result of a dark conspiracy and a fateful offer from Deimos, the God of Death.

The Fall of Viridian

During his mortal life, Viridian was a respected adjudicator serving under Emperor Ezekiel in the golden age of the Mytharil Empire. He was known for his wisdom, fairness, and unwavering commitment to justice. However, his promising life came to a tragic end when he was wrongfully convicted of the murder of a Sanctum Guard tasked with protecting Unknown. In truth, the murder had been orchestrated by the scheming Valekith, who sought to cover up his own treacherous plot to fracture the crystal and hoard the Infinity Shards. Viridian was falsely accused, convicted, and executed for the crime, left to die in disgrace.

Deal with Death

In the depths of his suffering, Deimos saw the injustice that had been done to Viridian. Moved by his plight, the God of Death offered him a second chance—not in life, but in the afterlife. Viridian was reborn as Verdictus, the Arbiter of Judgment, and was tasked with overseeing the souls of the dead. He became the final judge of the damned, passing divine rulings over all who enter the Plane of Oblivion. Appearance

As Verdictus, he is a towering skeletal figure of immense size, with four massive arms and an imposing presence. His head is crowned by a magnificent organic tree that blooms from the top of his skull, symbolizing the wisdom gained from millennia of judgments and the memories of countless souls that have passed through his court. Each branch of the tree holds divine scrolls, the Scrolls of Fate, which contain the detailed records of the lives of those whose fates Verdictus must decide.

The branches and scrolls represent the vast breadth of his knowledge, for Verdictus is able to peer into the entire life story of a soul before making his final judgment. His decisions are based on these memories and deeds, ensuring a fair and just ruling for all.

Judgment and the Riftways

Once Verdictus passes judgment, the soul is cast through the Riftways, channels that connect the Plane of Oblivion to the various afterlives. For those who lived justly, the Riftways lead to the Heavens (Plane of Helion), where they may find peace in the afterlife. For those who committed great evils or sins, their souls are plummeted into The Nine Hells, where they face eternal torment.
