The Mytharil Empire was the first galactic civilization of the Prime Plane, founded by the Mythar during the Second Age. From its capital world of Tolria in the Elysium Sector, the empire expanded across nearly every known star system, establishing temples, sanctums, Rift gateways, and celestial bastions that would endure long after its fall.
The Mytharil Empire was not merely a political dominion—it was a cosmological structure. Through the triune alignment of Mythar, True Dragon, and their bonded Angels of the Hosts of Helion, the empire functioned as a stabilizing lattice between the Plane of Helion and the material universe. Its collapse during the First Continuum Crisis fractured not only its territory, but the metaphysical bridge that once bound the Prime Plane to the Heavens.
Fragments of Mytharil architecture and technology remain scattered throughout the galaxy, shaping civilizations millennia later.
Origins & History
The Mytharil Empire emerged during the Second Age when the Mythar, first mortal stewards of the Prime Plane, began expanding outward from Tolria. Empowered by Rift mastery and bonded to both True Dragons and Angels of Helion, they established a network of celestial sanctums that anchored reality itself against Khaos incursions.
The empire’s golden age unfolded under Emperor Ezekiel, whose reign marked the height of galactic unity. Dragon-rider legions secured frontier systems. Angelic resonance sanctums reinforced the metaphysical boundary between planes. Rift-engineered cities—most famously the Floating City of Netheril—hovered above Tolria as monuments to cosmic order and testament to Mythar supremacy.
Mytharil expansion was not limited to Tolria. The empire spread across the Prime Plane, leaving temple complexes and stabilization arrays in nearly every star system. Many modern civilizations unknowingly inhabit former Mytharil worlds.
This era ended with the ambition of Archmage Valekith. Seeking transcendence beyond the bounds of imposed mortality, he fractured The Continuum Crystal to seize godhood. The act tore open argent Khaos rifts across the Prime Plane, ushering in the First Continuum Crisis.
The Revenant Titan emerged from the Plane of Khaos. Dragon hosts were slaughtered. Angelic bonds shattered. Netheril was consumed into The Netherveil. Although Emperor Ezekiel confronted Valekith and severed hands in a climactic confrontation, he ultimately failed to prevent the ensuing cataclysm and Valekith's escape through a Rift.
The empire collapsed almost instantly.
The Second Continuum Crisis would further destabilized surviving remnants, mutating mortal species and reshaping galactic evolution through argent Rift leakage from the Plane of Khaos.
Structure & Governance
Mytharil governance centered on the Emperor of Mytharil, supported by high councils of Rift-Maesters and dragon-lords. Authority was both political and cosmological; leadership required alignment with Helion as well as command of material forces.
Each Mythar citizen was bonded to an Angel in the Hosts of Helion. These bonds were not hierarchical chains but stabilizing conduits. Through them, the empire functioned as a distributed divine relay system, reinforcing order across space.
Dragon-rider legions forged regional strongholds. Paired Mythar–Dragon war-hosts also acted as autonomous defenders of frontier systems.
Arcane & Technological Achievements
The Mytharil Empire pioneered:
- Rift Energy stabilization arrays
- Interstellar Rift gate networks
- Floating megastructures
Much of what modern civilizations consider advanced technology—Rift reactors, stabilization drives, and even arcane Rift Magic—are derived from degraded Mytharil relics.
The Aurelion Ascendancy’s Rift Energy stabilization systems, in particular, trace back to Tolrian Mytharil ruins.
The Talons of the Timeless Tome
Among Valekith’s most cruel acts was the curse placed upon his rivals—Mythar whom he deemed too principled, too powerful, or too dangerous. These individuals were twisted into owl-like forms in a mockery of their once-radiant angelic stature.
These cursed beings became known as the Inconnu, and in time formed the order called the Talons of the Timeless Tome. Though stripped of their former forms, they retained fragments of Mythar memory and Rift mastery.
For millennia across the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Ages, the Talons operated in secrecy upon Tolria and beyond, collecting Continuum Shards scattered after the Continuum fracture. Their leader, Orion—once Valekith’s own understudy—dedicated centuries to mending what his former master had broken.
During the Battle of the Black Sun, Orion and the Talons aided The Sunsations in defeating Valekith after his reunion with Malekith. Through the gathered Rift shards, they helped stabilize the Continuum once more, preventing total cosmological collapse.
The Talons represent one of the last direct living tethers to the Mytharil age.
Descendants & Successors
The Inconnu are believed by some scholars to be the closest surviving continuation of Mytharil consciousness. Hidden behind the Shroud of Valryn, these constructs house not only Mythar knowledge but preserved souls—an act that challenges the authority of the Pantheon of Primus. If true, the Valryn are not merely descendants but deliberate extensions of Mythar legacy.
Many other species carry diluted Mythar ancestry, though mutated by Khaos exposure following the Continuum Crises. Entire evolutionary branches across the galaxy owe their divergence to argent Rift radiation.
Modern civilizations often refer to the Mythar as Progenitors, Forerunners, or Angels. Few understand the full scope of their dominion.
Legacy
The Mytharil Empire was the first galactic civilization—and the first to nearly unmake reality itself.
Its ruins dot the Prime Plane. Its technologies underpin empires. Its mistakes fractured evolution itself. Its sanctums still reside untouched in forgotten star systems.
The collapse of Mytharil severed the stable bridge between the Prime Plane and the Heavens. Since then, no civilization has come close to assuming their mastery of Rift Energy or possessing their knowledge of the cosmological order that exists throughout all things.
Whether the empire’s fall was inevitable hubris or a necessary fracture in cosmic evolution remains debated.
But all agree on one truth: Every star system bears its mark.
