Marcus Blackwood was once a notorious rogue who turned to hunting as a means of gaining fame and fortune. Born into a life of hardship, Marcus quickly learned the ways of the streets, honing his skills in stealth, deception, and combat. Over time, he transitioned from petty thievery to the lucrative profession of hunting rare and mystical creatures, where his cunning and ruthlessness served him well. His reputation as a skilled and relentless hunter grew, and he became a sought-after mercenary for those willing to pay a high price for the capture or death of legendary beasts.
Marcus's charm and charisma made him a natural leader, and he quickly gathered a band of equally ruthless hunters who shared his ambitions. Together, they formed a formidable group that was feared across the land. Their methods were as varied as they were brutal, ranging from deception and bribery to sheer brute force. Nothing was too extreme in the pursuit of their quarry, and their success rate was nearly unmatched.
Marcus's ambition led him to take on the most challenging and dangerous contracts, one of which came from the corrupt Goldfinger Co. in Avalon. They tasked him with hunting and killing the legendary White Stag, a powerful protective spirit of The Stillwoods. This contract promised not only a vast sum of gold but also the kind of fame that would solidify Marcus's name in history.
However, this hunt would prove to be unlike any other. The Sunsations, a group of adventurers with a deep connection to the natural world, sought to protect the White Stag and, in doing so, they awoke Verdan, the ancient Green Dragon and guardian of the Stillwood Forest. Unbeknownst to Marcus, his fate was sealed the moment Verdan was stirred from his slumber.
The hunt quickly turned from predator to prey as Verdan unleashed his wrath upon the hunters who dared to defile his forest. One by one, Marcus's band was decimated by the dragon's fury. The trees themselves seemed to conspire against the intruders, with branches and roots lashing out at the hunters. In the midst of the chaos, Marcus found himself face-to-face with Verdan, the very embodiment of the forest's vengeance.
In a desperate attempt to survive, Marcus fought valiantly, but he was no match for the ancient dragon. Verdan's massive jaws closed around Marcus, nearly biting him in half. Mortally wounded, Marcus was left to die, but the Sunsations intervened, convincing Verdan to spare him. The dragon relented, allowing Marcus to crawl away, his body broken and his spirit shattered.
Marcus's life hung by a thread as he attempted to make his way back to Avalon, leaving a trail of blood in his wake. However, his journey would take an unexpected turn when he was discovered by Rei Tyrson, a Dragonborn warrior raised by the Earth Genie Tribe. Rei, having been tasked with restoring balance to the Stillwood Forest, saw in Marcus an opportunity to aid in the hunt for Verdan.
Rei brought Marcus to Ophal, the elder of the Dao (Earth Genies), who performed an ancient and irreversible ritual. Through this dark rite, Marcus was transformed into a revenant, a twisted creature fueled solely by vengeance. His skin became as tough as bark, and his body was infused with the essence of the forest, making him a living embodiment of the wild. As a revenant hunter, Marcus's only purpose was to hunt and kill, driven by an insatiable desire for revenge against the creature that had nearly destroyed him.
Now a revenant, Marcus joined Rei in the hunt for Verdan, driven by a single-minded determination to see the dragon dead. The hunt was grueling, with many Dao falling to Verdan's might. In the final confrontation, Marcus unleashed all of his newfound power and rage against the dragon. However, despite his transformation and his tireless pursuit, he was no match for Verdan.
In the end, it was Verdan himself who delivered the final blow, putting an end to Marcus Blackwood's twisted existence. The revenant hunter, once a man driven by ambition and greed, found only destruction at the hands of the very creature he had sought to destroy. His death marked the end of the Blackwood legacy, but his story serves as a cautionary tale of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the price of vengeance.
