Void of Infinitum

Infinite Void Realm

The Void of Infinitum, also referred to as the Ninth Layer of The Nine Hells, is a realm that defies comprehension. Unlike the other layers of Hell, which bear some semblance of structure or tangible environment, the Void of Infinitum is an abyss of endless nothingness. Here, Unknown, the Unknown of Void, weaved an ever-expanding abyss meant to entrap the dreaming mind of Unknown. It was the purest manifestation of anti-matter—a paradoxical space where existence itself faltered and crumbled.

Within this abyss, layers upon layers extend infinitely, expanding as Azhorra'tha descends further into its own madness. The Void of Infinitum consumes all, far beyond the chaotic expanse of the Realm of Chaos. Fractured realms, torn between existence and non-existence, collide and disintegrate into the abyss. There is no light, no substance—just endless layers of oblivion. The abyss pulses with the consuming void, swallowing matter, energy, time, and even thought.

Origin

Before the establishment of the Nine Hells, the Void of Infinitum dominated the Plane of Khaos, representing the end of all things. The Void was the final destination for everything, embodying the end-state of the universe. It was created by Nox, the Eldari of Void, whose essence encapsulated the complete absence of matter, light, and time. His creation served as an infinite cage for Azhorra'tha, the Watcher, to prevent its mind from unraveling reality in a fit of chaotic dreaming. For countless eons, the Void of Infinitum consumed the entire Realm of Chaos, expanding ceaselessly until the Solis Singularity.

The Nine Hells as they are known today were only formed when eight arch-angels were cast from the Plane of Helion for committing one of the Seven Deadly Sins. The eighth arch-angel, Asmodeus, was exiled for treachery against the Pantheon of Primus, and with his fall, the Nine Hells were divided into layers. At the very bottom lay Avernus, the realm separating the Nine Hells from the infinite layers of the Void of Infinitum, where Asmodeus would banish particularly troublesome devils and demons to the endless chaos of the void.

Significance

The Void of Infinitum represents the ultimate end of all things, and is thus considered the final stop on the journey of existence. While it is classified as the Ninth Layer of the Nine Hells, its nature is far more expansive and terrifying. Here, the rules of reality break down. Matter is constantly consumed, transformed, and annihilated, leaving only the void.

It is within the Void that Azhorra'tha, the Watcher, lies imprisoned, unaware that it is the very architect of its own confinement. The influence of Azhorra'tha's dreaming mind permeates the abyss, creating pockets of twisted reality and drawing mad worshippers, demons, and eldritch beings who seek to tap into the Watcher's vast and dangerous power.

Connections

The Void of Infinitum is closely connected to the Realm of Chaos, acting as the consuming end-state of all matter. It is also tethered to Oblivion, the Plane of Death, where souls are judged by Deimos and pass into the afterlife or annihilation. Despite its classification as a Hell, the Void is beyond the reach of most fiendish powers, and even devils and demons fear its expanse.

Asmodeus alone maintains a tenuous control over the boundary between the Nine Hells and the Void of Infinitum, using it as a place of exile for the most troublesome and uncontrollable forces of chaos. The Void also bears a critical connection to Nox, as it represents the culmination of his purpose—the ultimate cessation of all things.

Legacy

The Void of Infinitum remains as both the Ninth Layer of Hell and the infinite abyss from which nothing escapes. The Nine Hells have largely left the Void undisturbed, save for the punishments enacted by Asmodeus. However, the growing cults of Azhorra'tha, empowered by the fractured Continuum Crystal, have begun to venture into the Void, seeking to commune with the Watcher in its madness and release its unfathomable power.
