Kraken's Landing

Imperial Forward Outpost

Kraken’s Landing is a fortified Imperial naval outpost and airship port situated atop a sheer mesa overlooking The Silver Veil Sea, along the southernmost rim of The Sands of Serrakhan, just below the escarpment of The Serrakhan Scar. Constructed by decree of East Empire Company (by proxy for the Empire of Bastile) in cooperation with the Serrakhan Sultanate, it now serves as the Empire’s primary foothold in southern Osira.

Though initially framed as a joint trade venture, Kraken’s Landing has since evolved into a full-fledged Imperial Navy forward base, with Bastilian frigate  anchored permanently along its blackstone piers under the guise of “protecting trade interests.”

Construction & Design

Built during the height of Bastile–Sultanate negotiations (under Sultan Hakim Atis) in the early Fifth Age, Kraken’s Landing was carved directly into the mesa’s basalt stone, reinforced with blackstone and onyx flown in from Tolria. The fortress rises in tiered bastions overlooking the sea, with battlements designed to repel both terrestrial incursion and airbourne assault.

Its central keep doubles as both command citadel and observatory, manned by Imperial Kraken Rift-Marines, while its lower tiers house docking platforms for airships and vertical lifts that descend to the bay’s edge.

The architecture is unmistakably Bastilian—cold, functional, and imposing. The outpost lacks ornamentation save for the gilded eye of the Immortal Emperor carved above the main gate.

Role & Strategic Significance

Though still nominally operating under cooperative trade charter with the Sultanate, Kraken’s Landing now functions in all but name as an Imperial stronghold. Bastile’s 13th Rift Fleet regularly docks here, and officers of the East Empire Company maintain private quarters and war halls overlooking the sea.

Its location—straddling the trade currents between Osira and Aerenal across the Silver-Veil Sea—grants the Empire direct access to both sea lanes and diplomatic pressure points. Rift-routes extending from the port are actively charted to bypass Vanir-controlled waters, and Imperial agents routinely monitor all shipments entering the sultanate from Tolrian "Free-States".

Bastile has described this presence as “stabilizing.” The Sultanate remains diplomatically silent.

Trade & Civilian Sectors

At the lower edge of the mesa, nestled within the shadow of the fortress, lies a foreign quarter—a walled trade bazaar where Sultanate merchants, Tolrian traders, and intermediaries exchange goods under the strict watch of Bastilian customs officers.

Rift engines, silken myrrh, and solar crystals are common commodities. Less publicly, Kraken’s Landing is also rumored to serve as a site for Rift-tech experimentation and testing of Rift-Nova devices, developed during the Fifth Age (see: Aegis of the Archmage).

While airship repairs and refueling remain a shared venture, the technology and arcane schematics are increasingly under Imperial lock and key.

Present Status

Kraken’s Landing is no longer a diplomatic outpost. It is a fortress—and a message.

Its walls watch both desert and sea. Its fleets remind the Serrakhan Sultanate, and by extension Aerenal, that Bastile’s reach extends far beyond the Tolrian heartlands. It is the keystone of Bastile’s Osiran presence, and a quiet threat to those who would challenge its claim to the post-Continuum order.

The eyes of the Empire do not blink.
And Kraken’s Landing does not wane.
