Septimus Lucien

The Gardener
Player Character

Septimus Lucien, hailing from the Empire of Bastile, once served as a noble Imperial Knight. His name became synonymous with valor and strategy as he led numerous successful campaigns against the formidable forces of the Tsardom of Ruska. Known for his exceptional combat skills and tactical acumen, Septimus earned respect and admiration from his peers and superiors alike. However, fate took a dark turn for Septimus during his last campaign against the Ruskan Remnants. Captured by the enemy, he endured brutal torture in the icy confines of an arctic prison in Tolria's far northern reaches. Left to perish in the frigid desolation, Septimus faced the darkest moments of his life, grappling with pain and despair in the solitary confinement of his cell.

In what seemed to be a twist of fate or divine intervention, Septimus found himself reborn, not just in body but in spirit. Embracing the teachings of The Ebon Creed, a devout group of worshippers of Deimos, the god of death, Septimus dedicated his new life to their cause. His past actions on the battlefield, where he ensured the respectful treatment of the dead and killed with mercy, resonated deeply with the creed's beliefs. This transformation marked a significant shift in Septimus's life, as he left behind his old identity to pursue a path of spiritual devotion. Septimus's appearance is striking, with his pale, almost ethereal complexion. He dons robes adorned with red spider lily designs, a symbol deeply connected to the cycle of life and death. These white robes, enveloping his form, also cover his eyes and face, adding an air of mystery and solemnity to his presence. The red spider lilies are not just decorative but represent his unyielding commitment to the Ebon Creed and Deimos.

Recognized for his unwavering faith, Septimus caught the attention of Immortal Emperor Caeus, a fellow reverent devotee of Deimos. Entrusted with a crucial mission, he was sent to the distant land of Osira to spread the teachings of the Ebon Creed and uncover the region's hidden history. His journey to Osira began with a hopeful yet uncertain voyage across the sea, as Septimus embarked on a quest to find the legendary Emris Adventuring Guild.

Wrath of the World Eater

Septimus proved his divine purpose when he aided The Sunsations in slaying the World Eater Serpent, an ancient, abyssal horror that threatened The Sea Realm. In the climactic battle, he banished the undead revenant form of the beast to the Plane of Oblivion, severing its connection to the mortal world. Only moments later, Avatar Typhon, enraged by the atrocities wrought upon his domain, eviscerated the Elder Brain Hive Mind, ensuring the serpent’s corruption could never return.

The Hunt for Ares Farric

Following the battle beneath the waves, Septimus journeyed with Avatar Guy the Grateful to Aerenal, where he helped track down and confront Ares Farric, the rogue Vanir noble who had been committing dark murders in secret (see: The Forgotten Son). His divine sense of justice and command over the finality of death played a pivotal role in Ares’s downfall, marking another soul claimed in Deimos’s name.

Newfound Purpose

From Aerenal, Septimus accompanied Guy to The Immortal Isle, where the Sunsations sought to broker peace between the Valar and Vanir. On the dashing cliffs of Crown's End, he was offered an unexpected proposition by King Cyrus Valarion—to stay within the Immortal Isle and study the Valar Curse, an affliction tied to the Night Mother Nyx, and one that bound the Valar to undeath.

Realizing that his pursuit of Malekith and Valekith was inextricably linked to this curse, Septimus accepted the offer, remaining behind to uncover the truth of life and death’s balance. Yet, the shadow of Valekith loomed, ever watchful, ensuring that Septimus’s mission had only just begun.
