Sultan of The Sun
NPC

Sultan Mehmed Atis, born Zavaron, was the first Sultan to rule over the Serrakhan Sultanate. His transformation from a great sphinx to a mortal ruler marked the beginning of a lineage that would oversee the vast desert empire for generations.

Originally a majestic sphinx, Zavaron's life took a drastic turn when he was deceived by Malekith, the usurper. Believing Malekith to be a genuine seeker of knowledge, Zavaron taught him the ancient art of Sun-Rifting, a powerful form of elemental magic. However, Malekith's intentions were far from noble. With the assistance of High Priest Ishmael, Malekith betrayed Zavaron, imprisoning him and casting a malevolent curse that clipped his wings and bound his magnificent form into that of a mere human.

Renamed Mehmed Atis, Zavaron was forced to live a mortal life, stripped of his former glory and power. His once resplendent golden wings were now nothing more than a painful memory of his true self.

Despite his tragic transformation, Mehmed Atis played a pivotal role in the establishment and expansion of the Serrakhan Sultanate. Under his reluctant but determined leadership, the Sultanate grew in power and influence across the vast expanses of The Sands of Serrakhan. His strategic acumen and deep knowledge of the desert’s secrets, coupled with the oversight of Malekith and the Primarchs of the Sun, ensured the stability and prosperity of the burgeoning empire.

Mehmed's rule was marked by both progress and repression, as he was compelled to serve as the divine fist of Malekith. The Sultanate’s laws and decrees often reflected Malekith’s will, enforcing his vision with an iron hand. When Ishmael deemed Mehmed's usefulness at an end, he was mummified and kept in a golden sarcophagus within the Tomb of the Suns Eclipse until his service was once again needed.

Sultan Mehmed Atis's legacy is a complex tapestry of greatness and tragedy. While he is remembered as the founder of the Serrakhan Sultanate, his true story as Zavaron, the betrayed sphinx, casts a shadow over his reign. His life serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of misplaced trust and the cost of ambition. The lineage of Sultans that followed him continued to rule under the watchful eye of Malekith, perpetuating the cycle of power and control that began with Mehmed’s transformation.

Fate of The First

Tomb of the Suns Eclipse

In a quest to uncover crucial information about the elusive High Priest Ishmael, adventurers Septimus Lucien and Haellae Colaerth ventured into the ancient crypts beneath the Tomb of the Suns Eclipse. Their objective led them to a grand sarcophagus, bearing the name of the first Sultan, Mehmed Atis.

As Septimus and Haellae attempted to open the imposing sarcophagus, they inadvertently triggered ancient magic that awakened the slumbering Mehmed Atis. Alongside him, the sarcophagi of his loyal Janissary Order guards, entombed opposite his resting place, began to stir. The guards, mummified and bound to eternal vigilance, prepared to defend their Sultan even in death.

Confronted with the awakened Sultan and his guardians, the two adventurers found themselves in a precarious situation. However, Septimus and Haellae managed to convince Mehmed to hear their plea. They proposed a deal: in exchange for valuable information about High Priest Ishmael, they would grant Mehmed and his guards the peace of a proper death, allowing their spirits to pass on under the Serrakhan Sun and be judged by Deimos, the god of the dead.

Mehmed, weary from centuries of restless undeath and longing for release, agreed to their terms. He imparted critical information about Ishmael's dark rituals, his connection to Malekith, and the impending threat of the Revenant Titan. In return, Septimus and Haellae pledged to fulfill their end of the bargain.

True to their word, Septimus and Haellae performed the necessary rites to ensure a proper passing for Mehmed and his guards. Septimus used his sacred blade to destroy the hearts of the mummies, severing the dark magic that bound them to undeath. As each heart was pierced, the guards, one by one, found release from their eternal watch, their spirits freed to move on to the afterlife.

With Mehmed’s heart finally destroyed, the once-great Sultan could rest in peace. His last moments were spent gazing toward the Sun, a reminder of the life and glory he once knew. As his spirit departed, Mehmed expressed gratitude to the adventurers for their compassion and honor in upholding their end of the bargain.
