The Primarchs of the Sun are legendary figures steeped in lore and myth across The Sands of Serrakhan. The Primarchs were once believed to be Solir Paladins, Sun Elven champions from Itela whom sought out and confronted The Great Serpent, a primordial beast of immense power that threatened the balance of The Sun Realm. These brave paladins tracked down the Great Serpent to the southernmost deserts of Osira, attempting to vanquish it. However, their heroic efforts led to their demise, as the Great Serpent overpowered and slew them, leaving their bodies to waste in the barren sands of the dune sea.
Founding of the Primarchs
It was Malekith, the risen God of the Sun, who discovered their bodies. After betraying and slaying the Great Serpent himself, Malekith took its remains (particularly its ribs), and used the Ebony Amulet—also known as the Heart of the Serpent—to breathe life back into the fallen paladins. Reforming them as demi-gods, Malekith bestowed upon them celestial power and eternal life, and they became his immortal servants, ruling over the Serrakhan Desert as the Primarchs of the Sun.
Malekith’s betrayal of the Great Serpent, and the transformation of the Primarchs from fallen paladins into celestial beings, marked the beginning of their reign over the southern Serrakhan sands. The amulet, imbued with the essence of the serpent, made them into beings of great power, tied eternally to the Sun God's divine will. It was in this time that they were charged with divine service in maintaining order as demi-gods over the fiercely devoted denizens of the Serrakhan Sultanate.
The Setting Sun
After the mysterious disappearance of Malekith, the Primarchs, left without their master, sealed themselves away within a tomb known as the Temple of the Seven Suns. Here they waited, entombed for centuries, for the return of their god. The Primarchs believed Malekith would one day return to reclaim his dominion, and they remained faithful, their power undiminished even in slumber.
In ancient prophecies, it was foretold that the Primarchs of the Sun would rise once more to reclaim the Serrakhan Desert. Their return was long anticipated by prophets of the Holy Order of the Sun, who saw the Primarchs as heralds of the Sun God's dominion.
Immortality and Ascension
One of the Primarchs, Volkier, stands apart from the others. He was not originally a Sun Elf, but a mortal warrior who served in the Serrakhan Sultanate. His dedication to the Sun God caught Malekith’s eye, and upon proving his valor, Volkier was bestowed with immortality and transformed into a Primarch himself. He now stands as a symbol of the Sun God's favor, having transcended mortality to join the ranks of his fellow demi-gods.
While the Primarchs are immortal and cannot die by conventional means, their souls are bound to reincarnate upon death. To truly defeat them, one must trap their essence within a phylactery—a relic of celestial power that can contain the very soul of a Primarch, preventing their rebirth.
Divine Imprisonment
The Primarchs were eventually released from their slumber by the adventurer known as Kairus the Brass, causing chaos and destruction across the dune sea. Their power was immense, and they sought to reclaim their ancient dominion over the land. However, their reign was short-lived as they were confronted by The Sunsations, a group of legendary adventurers who used a powerful artifact known as the Dawn Device.
Though the Primarchs were immortal, the phylactery-like powers of the Dawn Device were able to contain their essence, imprisoning them once again, preventing them from reincarnating and restoring peace to the desert—at least for a time.
Legacy and Legends
The legacy of the Primarchs of the Sun remains deeply entwined with the lore of the Serrakhan Desert and the Holy Order of the Sun. While they ruled the desert for hundreds of years, their ultimate fate now lies in the hands of those who possess the means to either free them from their eternal slumber or keep them sealed away.
Their connection to Malekith, the Great Serpent, and the mysteries of the Ebony Amulet, marks them as key figures in the cosmic struggles between gods, mortals, and the ancient forces of creation. The return of the Primarchs is feared by many but awaited by some who still revere their power and their divine mission under the vanished Sun God.
