Some say Ekersfeld is a noble name and the pits are named after their lords, but others that the lords and ladies got his name from the pits. The truth is lost to time. What we do know is the family has lived here for hundreds of years during which time iron was mined here.
Presently, the unmarried Lady Jane Ekersfeld holds the title and together with the foreman Garth is responsible for the people and operations of the mines.
