Arcane Portalmancer. When Norran casts a spell of 1st level or higher, he can briefly open a 5-foot-diameter flickering portal at a visible point within 30 feet. A creature can use 10 feet of movement to teleport between two portals created this way (both vanish at the end of his next turn).
Calculated Retreat (Recharge 5–6). When Norran takes damage, he can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space he can see as a reaction, leaving behind a glowing rift that persists until the start of his next turn. The next ranged spell he casts through this rift ignores cover.
Fragile Genius. If Norran is ever restrained or silenced, he loses concentration on any ongoing spell and must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of his next turn — his mind falters under pressure.

Dimensional Collapse (Recharge 5–6). Norran creates a temporary spatial implosion at a point he can see within 60 ft. Each creature within a 10-ft. radius must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 18 (4d8) force damage and be pulled 10 feet toward the center. On a success, they take half damage and aren’t pulled.
Reactions
Spatial Flicker. When targeted by an attack, Norran can impose disadvantage on the roll by shifting his image briefly through dimensional overlap (usable 3/day).
Counterspell (3rd level). As normal.
Bonus Actions
Blink Step (Recharge 4–6). Norran teleports up to 20 ft. to an unoccupied space he can see, leaving behind an illusory afterimage until the start of his next turn.
Tactics
- Opening Move: Starts with mirror image or blur, observing the battlefield and staying behind Tharok.
- Round 2: Uses hypnotic pattern or wall of force to divide or distract the party.
- Round 3: Throws lightning bolt or uses dimensional collapse to threaten from range.
- When threatened: Misty step or dimension door to flee — he values his life more than victory.
- Defeated: If cornered, he stammers that “the Shield speaks to him too,” revealing that he’s just a pawn, not the mastermind.
Description
A pale, thin man in singed robes, carrying a strange silver ring etched with runes. His eyes glow faintly blue when he focuses, and motes of spatial distortion shimmer around him when he’s nervous. He mutters about “harmonic gateways” and “spatial harmonics” as if he understands the math of creation itself — but his arrogance hides panic.
He truly believes he’s the clever one in the duo, blissfully unaware that Gargauth manipulates both him and Tharok.
Personality
- Mannerisms: Paces while speaking; never makes eye contact; constantly mutters numbers or equations.
- Motivation: Thinks he can use Gargauth’s power to open a planar rift and “free” himself from this world.
